Lab and Practicum

Introduction

Lab and Clinical Practicum Experiences:

Successful completion of this course requires a total of 90 hours of lab and clinical practicum, including Shadow Health hours. Clinical practicum hours must be completed with a registered nurse preceptor who has a baccalaureate degree in nursing or higher. You must work when your preceptor is working; however, you do not have to work every day that your preceptor works. You may not use a substitute preceptor. Clinical practicum hours may not be completed during your regular work shifts. You may complete your practicum hours with the health care agency where you are employed, however you may not complete the hours on the unit where you work (the Department of Nursing must have an affiliation agreement with the health care agency). Do not delay in submitting required paperwork for the clinical practicum. The following must be completed and submitted to the lead course faculty for approval by the lead course faculty and/or the Director of the Department of Nursing before you can begin your clinical practicum hours.

· Completed Clinical Practicum Schedule

· Completed Preceptor Agreement

· Completed Clinical Agency orientation, if required, for the health care agency where you are completing clinical practicum hours.

Physcial Exam Check-Off

Wednesday, August 2 and Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 8 AM to 4 PM. You will sign-up for a time slot in advance. You will select an assessment scenario then perform the necessary assessment, including health history. All students must perform required elements regardless of assessment scenarios: perform hand hygiene, utilize two patient identifiers, and auscultate heart and lungs. Failure to do so will result in the need for remediation and repeat check-off.
