BJH WINS BLUE VS BLACK COMPETITION!
Black vs Blue food drive results were made official last night during halftime of the football game. Once again the Blue side wins over all, and Bedford wins the competition between junior highs. The students and families of Bedford JH brought in over 7,075 items for this worthy cause that replenishes our community food pantry so we can help our neighbors in need. Thank you so much for your generosity, another reason why Bedford is Best! The food drive collected over 102,00 items in total!
CLASS WINNERS FOR BLUE VS BLACK CAN FOOD DRIVE
BJH would like to say thank you for all of the donations and support that our families have given our community. As a school we were able to raise 7,095 items which all goes to help our families in need right here in our community.
Our Class winners for bringing in the most can food items are the following:
- 7th grade: Mr. Johnston, Mr. Lawrence, and Ms. Wolf
- 8th grade: Ms. Feasel, Ms. Large, and the Office Aides
- 9th grade: Ms. King and Ms. Pacatte
These classes will win pizza, ice cream, or donut party.
RED RIBBON WEEK
BJH is celebrating Red Ribbon Week Oct 1st-5th
Red Ribbon in October illustrates a commitment to and support of the fight against illegal drug use. Our school participates in this national campaign to honor the memory of Kiki Camarena, a DEA agent murdered by drug dealers, and our local law enforcement professionals killed on duty-related incidents.
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don't, yet only a quarter of teens report having these conversations.

BEDFORD BRONCO BUDDY MEETINGS BEGIN!
Bedford Jr. High had its first Bronco Buddy mentor meeting of the year on Wednesday September 26th. The students were excited because they enjoy the program and want to spend time with Mentors.
The Mentors and Mentees met and played Bingo while they were munching on Snacks provided by the Trinity High School GAP Animal Rescue Club. We had a large group attend and there was much laughing, eating, and just great conversation!
Bedford Jr. High wants to give a huge Shout Out to The Trinity High School GAP Rescue Club who donated the snacks. They work day and night with the Animal Shelter, trying to find Forever Homes for animals. It is Four Paws Forward!! Please consider adoption. SCIENCE CREATES 3D MODELS OF ATOMS
Students in PAP 8th grade Science created 3D models of atoms. Each student created a 3D model and spoke to the class about why their atom of choice was the BEST. Atom models are on display in the school library!
Madame King and her French students add a Parisian flare to the BJH courtyard.
Each year Madame King and her French students spend a little time taking care of the planter boxes in our courtyards. We appreciate the time and effort to make our school look nice and encourage the students to take care of their campus.
BAND PERFORMS AT FRESHMAN FOOTBALL GAME
Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Davis took their band to the Raider Bowl on Wednesday as the freshman football team took on the archrival Harwood Blackhawks. The band sounded great and provided a great atmosphere for all those in attendance.
PTA REFLECTIONS CONTEST
“Heroes Around Me” is the theme for the Reflections contest this year. The deadline for submissions is October 19.
There are many categories to submit entries to:
- Dance Choreography
- Film Production
- Video
- Literature
- Writing
- Music Composition
- Photography
- Visual Arts (2D Art)
- Special Artist Division
Participation Requirements:
The student or at least one person from their primary household must be a current member of the Local PTA/PTSA where the student is participating.
Entry Requirements: Each entry must be the original work of the participating student. Help from an adult or collaboration with other students is not allowed except in the Special Artist Division. Other individuals may appear in or perform a student’s work, but the work itself must be the creative product of one student only.

ACADEMIC PLANNING GUIDE DESIGN CONTEST
We are, once again, having a student contest to design the covers of our 2019/2020 Academic Planning Guides. The winner will have their name, school, and graduation year featured on the back of the chosen cover design.

Specifications for final design:
- Final Designs must be in .pdf format
- The official HEB ISD Logo should be somewhere in the design
- The designer’s name, school, and graduation year should appear somewhere in the design
- 300 dots per inch or 300 pixels per inch
- CMYK for 4 color processing
- No RGB or RGB photos in the document
- CMYK photos are acceptable
- Landscape orientation placed 17 “ wide by 11“tall.
- The design will be folded to create a front and back cover– stapled in the center.
- Do not be campus specific in their designs. This book is for HEB, not a particular campus. Both sides of the district need to be included if photos are being used.
- If you want color to extend all the way to the edges of the page, then add ¼ inch to the entire document making it 17 ¼” by 11 ¼”. (Extend color to the edges of the enlarged size, as 1/8 will be trimmed off all the way around.)
The deadline to submit designs is Friday, November 9th. Designs should be submitted to Carla Docken electronically. carladocken@hebisd.edu

Bedford Junior High Families - The online ordering through www.balfour.com is now ready to take orders! Mrs. Keneda greatly appreciates everyone’s patience as the site was fixed and updated. Please use the link below to order a yearbook, baby ad or yearbook accessory. The $40 back to school price has been extended until Monday, October 15 at midnight. COUNSELOR'S CORNER
PSAT/NMSQT EXAMS ADMINISTERED OCTOBER 10TH
The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on Wednesday, OCT 10 AT BJH. The test is available for any 9th grader. The test must be purchased in the counseling office for $16. Parents can send cash or check.
Upon payment, each student will receive a study guide to prepare the student for the test. There are limited number of tests.

HELP WANTED AND VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Please consider helping out your kids school by volunteering a little of your time. Bedford Junior High offers multiple opportunities that currently need some assistance. Morning Crosswalk Duty, Workroom Responsibilities, and as always Concession Sales on Fridays and game days. We would love to see you involved in your kids school and this is a great way to start.

ATHLETIC RESULTS
9TH GRADE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The 9th grade Lady Broncos volleyball team traveled to San Angelo High School last Friday night and defeated the Bobcats in two straight sets 25-17, 25-21.
Emma Okruch and Sydney Still led the service pressure. Christallyn Tate, Hallie and Jayden Rhodes and Kylie Eiserloh led the defense with one big block after another. This was a great team victory!
The 9th grade Lady Broncos volleyball team defeated Euless Tuesday night in two straight sets 25-4, 25-8.
Sydney Still, Grace Okruch and Paige Looney led the service attack. Emma Okruch, Madison Morgan and Delanie Butler provided the defense and Christallynn Tate provided the net presence. Way to go Lady Broncos volleyball!
8TH GRADE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Congratulations to the 8th Grade Volleyball B team! They defeated North Ridge 25-23 and 25-21.
Outstanding ball control by Sophie Campbell, Maddox Vickers, and Reese Johnson. Service pressure was Haylee Branham, Julia Loya, and Sophie.
The A team fell short but fought to the end.
Key players were Mckinley Giffin with outstanding kills, Maggie Lewis with service pressure, and defense stance by Reagan Warren and Macey Mercer.
7TH GRADE GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Ashlyn Miller, Ashlynn Winborne, and Skylar Henley led the service attack. Katelyn Tietjen, Sydney Eiserloh and Eleanor Sebastian showed excellent ball control. This team is 3-0 and continues to improve.
8TH GRADE FOOTBALL
The 8th grade A football team put together a dominating performance against North Ridge Tuesday with a big 30 to 8 victory.
Running back Roderick Hale took the first play of the game for a 70 yard touchdown to get things going for the Broncos. Quarterback Brayden Jones also connected with Wide Receiver Amen Dickey for three passing touchdowns to add to the Bronco offensive attack. Defenders Korbin Owens, Trey Wilson, Rex Small and Montress Hardeman lead the Bronco defensive effort. William Daniels had 2 sacks and 10 total tackles in an outstanding defensive game. Matthew McGrath, Jordan Fleming and Nicholas Payne all had interceptions with Payne returning his interception for a touchdown in the 4th quarter. The A team looks to keep the win streak going next Tuesday against North Oaks at North Oaks middle school. Good job Broncos on a total team victory, keep up the good work.
The 8th grade B football team lost a close game against North Ridge Tuesday with a final score of 22 to 12.
Quarterback Tanner Taylor lead the offensive attack with several passing completions to Receivers Evan Ventrca and Jack Baker. Alexis Gonzalez and Evan Pomprenke each added a rushing touchdown to add to the Bronco total. Zach Hintemeyer, Tristan Pravong, Zach Hall and Adrian Phillips lead the Bronco defense to help contain a shifty North Ridge offense. Alexander Arguetta also added 2 sacks and several tackles in a commendable defensive effort. Hussam Al-Noubani, Jackson Boswell and Brandon Morrison also played key roles in the team effort bout the Broncos ultimately came up a little short. The B team looks to get things back on track next Tuesday against North Oaks Middle School at North Oaks. Good job guys and keep up the hard work.
7TH GRADE FOOTBALL
The 7th grade boys A and B teams both had another exceptional night of football Monday night. After jumping out to a 13-0 lead and overcoming some mental mistakes the A team defeated a gritty North Ridge team 19-16.
The passing game was commanded by Kolbe Fielder who threw 2 touchdown passes to Landyn Brown and Brayden Shives, and had multiple completions to Elijah Zamora. The running attack was led by offensive lineman Darrien Tallie, Reese Dietal, Christian Haley, Justin Aburto, and Isaiah Ramos-Soto who dominated the trenches allowing Tristan Johnson to have many big runs, one of them a touchdown. Jacoby Duncan also had a 30 yd. run. The defense was led by Caleb Jones, Reese Dietal, Ruben Sosa, Gideon Harkins, and Jacoby Duncan who had an interception to seal the victory. Great job A team. Keep working hard!
The B team dominated North Ridge Monday night 20-6.
The offense was led by Matthew Wendorf who threw 2 touchdown passes. One short one to Jonah Due who took it took it 60 yards for a score, and another deep dime to Rocko Gonzalez as he was getting hit. The running game was led by Isaac Watkins who had many long runs, one being a touchdown. And, Kenyon Hardin who ran hard all night and had a 1 pt. conversion. The defense was led by Christian Wolfe, Carson Walker, Luke Mirelas, and Nicholas Kumpel. Great job B team!
HUSTLE AWARDS
AMARI MURRAY
Amari Murray (8/9) hustle award Amari Murray is so well loved by her peers for how hard she works every day in athletics. Amari always finishes everything that is asked of her. She holds her teammates accountable and is a selfless leader even staying to make sure the locker room is clean and there are no consequences for the whole group. She has been a gem since day one at BJH, we are lucky to have such an amazing Lady Bronco!
KEYLEE CAMPBELL
Keylee Campbell is an incredibly hard worker in athletics. She consistently finishes running and lifting exercises at the top of the 7th grade class. Keylee has also grown as a vocal leader helping keep her teammates accountable and hustling through the finish line. Keylee is a competitor and will do big things for Lady Bronco athletics! Way to go kiddo!
