2nd & 4th Grade Music Program

The Second and Fourth grade music program on May 23rd was based on the book, The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle. The students did an amazing job. Each grade portrayed a different light from the book while playing on Orff instruments. The second grade was able to show off what they have been doing in class with movement while the fourth grade sang a song about Fireflies. The fourth grade wowed the audience with their recorder skills. The performance ended with both grades singing "You've Got a Friend in Me" to show that if we keep searching, you will find where you fit in. The fourth grade students were also able to participate in the Instrument petting zoo before the concert started, where they could try out all the instruments they could play in band next year. A fun time was had by all. Can't wait until next year.

Special Olympics

The 2018 Special Olympics were held May 11 at Elyria High School. Columbia sent 10 students to compete in the annual event that hosts over 10 schools.

Our own third grader Piper Cornish was one of the torch runners in the opening ceremony. Despite the chilly weather, the students put their all into the events and had a great time. Look for the video slideshow of the day on the Copopa website soon.

Laugh Olympics

Mama Fasi

The students of Copopa were able to enjoy a grant funded Drumming workshop May 22 and May 23. Mama Fasi had the students performing different drumming patterns on a drum to make a final performance. If time permitted, she even had the students moving to the music and playing a listening game. All the students were engaged and laughing along with her. They used words such as, "I like to play", "never give up", "you know we, never give up", and "I like ice cream, I like popsicles" to help with the drumming patterns. She also had an inspiring message about never giving up and being respectful to others.
