Principal's Corner
Dear Franklin Academy Families,
To start, I would like to take some time during this Memorial Day weekend to honor the men and women who voluntarily give their lives to serve our country and support our freedom. We thank each of you for the selfless work you engage in each day. Our country is likely to have you on our front lines.
As we wrap up our year, I believe it is a good time to look back and recognize how much our students have accomplished this school year. This week, all staff and students who purchased the 2017-2018 Yearbook, will be receiving their copy. This is an amazing way to record and savor all the memories from this year. If your family did not purchase a yearbook, it is not too late. Please send your student to school with a $45.00 check made out to Jostens - Ms. Sigal will accept these checks at the downstairs desk from 7:30-8:30 each morning while supplies last.
In The Spotlight: Ms. Herrera
by Angelina Snyder (5th grade)
This week, we have the opportunity to get to know a little bit more about our ESE teacher, Ms. Herrera.
What made you become a teacher? My passion to see my students grow is why I became a teacher. That, together with the fact that I love kids.
What is the most satisfying part of your job as our ESE teacher? Again, seeing my students grow and developing and having a relationship with my students.
If you were not a teacher, what would you be? If I was not a teacher, I would be a professional soccer player or a dancer.
a
When you are not teaching, what activities do you like to do? When I am not teaching, I love to go to the beach, spending time with my friends and family and playing soccer.
What is your favorite memory at Franklin Academy? My favorite memory at Franklin Academy happened last year when Boosterthon came into my class and gave all of my students’ sunglasses.
Around Franklin...
This past week, our students and teachers presented their STEM projects to the rest of the school. A lot of work and creativity was put into these projects. As an example, we have our third grade STEM project winners, Mrs. Delgado's Class.
"For our stem fair project, we tested to see which roof angle holds up best during a hurricane. My students tested three different roof angles: 45, 37, and 26 degrees. We learned that the smaller the angle the more wind pressure it can withstand. Hurricanes affect Floridians and those living in coastal areas every year. Now when purchasing an older home that is not built to hurricane standards, we can make a better decision in purchasing a home with a smaller roof pitch."
Great job to Mrs. Delgado and her students for all the hard-work and research they put into their project.
Our local professional hockey team, The Florida Panthers, made a visit to Franklin Academy this past Wednesday, May 23rd. The Panthers Street Floor Hockey team taught 40 of our Fifth Grade students skills such as stick handling, passing and shooting. The students then got to play games! The gymnasium was transformed into two floor Hockey rinks with Florida Panthers gear and decor.
Students were sweating, smiling, laughing and got a great workout. One student, Jaeden Pino, excitedly asked, "Are we doing this again next week?" Special thanks to Matt Janusz the Youth Hockey Manager and the Panthers for making this an awesome opportunity for our Franklin students.
