NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- Thank you to Mr. Russell, Ms. Sells, Mr. Wells, and Ms. Pena for stepping up to support while Ms. Fosnow is out.
- Please check out the beginnings of the mural painted outside the art room, next to the computer lab. Starting to look good, Ms. Allen!
- Ms. Makowski....thanks for staying after for tutoring each week. I know your students enjoy the extra academic support!
We have 14 instructional days left until ISTEP Part I begins in Grades 3-6. Let's make sure we continue to encourage our students to own their learning and help build their confidence!! In order for us to do this, I would like to have our K-2 classes adopt a 3-6 Grade class. Adoption assignments are attached to this SOAR Report. Let's make sure we lift our 3-6 Cardinals so they can truly "SOAR" to excellence on ISTEP Part I, which starts on February 27th.
Dismissal is getting better.......but we need to make sure we are dismissing on time each day! All classes should be clear of the doors by 3:55 pm so buses can roll at 4:00 pm. I am seeing classes not coming down in order. This is listed below. Please make sure we are following this to the letter!
- 3:40- K/Car Riders/Walkers
- 3:45- 1/2
- 3:50- 3/4/5/6
EVERYONE should be out of the building and ready to leave campus by the 3:55 pm bell. EVERYONE should be at their duty spots ON TIME, with the focus on getting students to their designated locations. Conversations among staff should be at a minimum!
Now that we have this MOY and Benchmark Data, it's time to put it into intentional action to see desired outcomes at EOY. February walkthroughs/evaluations will focus on the following areas:
- K-2- Guided Reading (Teacher table and stations)
- 3-6- TD Times (ELA and Math)
Please make sure we are aligning our practices to the above vision of positive, engaging, and rigorous instruction.
K-2, our guided reading time should be aligned to our DIBELS MOY results and the skills needed for our students grow from their current TRC and DIBELS scores. You should complete the DIBELS/TRC Action Plan for your classroom and I expect to see this reflected in your teacher table and guided reading stations. GROWTH IS THE GOAL!!!
3-6, we should be reviewing Benchmark 3 Data and looking at how we remediate previously taught standards and plan for future standards. Benchmark 3 gave us baseline data for upcoming paced standards....how will you use this to plan?? GROWTH IS THE GOAL!!!
In December, you completed a survey for our Opportunity Culture implementation. In reviewing this data, there are some follow up questions I would like to ask, particularly around PLC's and support. Please be on the look out for this request within the next week, so we can better serve and support your efforts.
Please review our School Safety Plan, especially lockdown procedures. Sometime next week we will be completing a drill. We must be prepared at all times....SAFETY 1ST!
Finally, information regarding the IPS Transfer Window was sent out by IPS Human Resources via email. Click on the link here for more information. Please let me know if your plans are changing from the intent form you completed previously.
