THANK YOU, BMS PTA for providing lunch to our teachers and staff during our Teacher Planning Day. BMS is so grateful to have been provided with nourishment during our inservice day. It was really great seeing teachers via our BMS Drive-Thru.
As mentioned last week, Dr. V will be out for a short bit of time. During her absence, Ms. Davis will be supporting, as Interim Principal. We are also very fortunate to welcome
Ms. Stevie Newcomer to our community, as she will support us, as our Assistant Principal. Please know although, we are experiencing a bit of a transition, BMS is such a strong community, and are in good hands. Please help us welcome Ms. Newcomer to BMS. When you have a moment, check out her short introduction video.
Grades
Friday, teachers worked diligently to complete grades for our students. Grades will be posted and sent out this week.
Quarter 3/Semester 2
We made it to Quarter 3/Semester 2! Again, thank you for your continued support of your student. As we look into this coming week. We want to ensure that students are set -up for success. Please remind your student to do the following:
- Check their schedule in StudentVue
- If they are in an elective wheel cycle or changing over to new electives, please make sure they have Quarter 3 Class Codes.
- Have them check their Canvas page and make they have the necessary tools/materials. in order to be successful. If your student is in need of materials and supplies, please let us know.
- Email/communicate with their teacher if they are in need/want help with assignments or understanding concepts.
MAP Testing
MAP testing will take place beginning February 1st. In order to provide maximum flexibility for teachers and minimal disruption to ongoing learning, ELA teachers will test during the first two weeks of February, and Math teachers will test during the last two weeks of February. The recommendation from Dr. Shawn Bird, Chief of Schools, is that teachers use one hour of instructional time to administer the test. Each teacher will select the synchronous class session or sessions that work best for his or her classes and that fall within the appropriate testing weeks. Students who need more time to finish or students who are unable to complete the assessment during the initial administration will work with a sub during asynchronous instructional time in order to complete the assessment. Additionally, if after two hours, a student is not finished with the assessment, they will only be allowed to persist at the request of their parent or guardian. Below are resource links for parents about MAP Testing:
Black History Month
Teachers are preparing lessons in honor of Black History Month. There will be a school- wide assembly at the end of the month.
Affinity/Student Groups
Is your student looking for opportunities to connect with other peers? Please have them consider joining affinity/student interests groups. The schedule is posted on the landing page of our main website, as well as below.
All the best,
