May 10, 2019
Colts,
This week was a flash! We had everything from our NJHS ceremony, a three game sweep in soccer, PTA volunteer breakfast, 8th grade celebration tonight and so much more. We were able to celebrate our hard working teachers for teacher appreciation week. Thank you to those of you that were able to reach out to any teacher this week to show your appreciation. Teacher's jobs can be a tough one in today's age and I know that they do it from a great place of wanting to help kids. Please be sure to take a look at the construction letter that I sent out yesterday, and also included below for your convenience. You will also find information on Colt Camp, schedule pick up, and 2019-2020 parent information meeting below in this newsletter. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and campus. Have a great weekend!

STAAR TESTING - CLOSED CAMPUS
STAAR TESTING - CLOSED CAMPUS
CMS will be a closed campus May 13 - May 16
Since we will have a closed campus on testing days, lunch deliveries won't be allowed. Students testing will not have access to their cell phones or be able to pick up a lunch by attendance due to the restricted testing areas and their varied lunch times. Lunches should either be purchased from the cafeteria or brought from home.
Thank you for your assistance.
CMS Construction
Colts,
It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of May and we will soon be winding down another successful year at CMS! Before we disperse for summer break, I wanted to share some information with you regarding our campus and summer construction.
As part of the 2016 Bond, our campus will be receiving classroom door hardware for fire safety, some new air conditioning/heating equipment, a controlled vestibule area and a renovated learning commons. Over the summer, construction crews will work to create a new main entrance to our building where the controlled vestibule will be located. The general contractor has told us that this entrance will not be finished by the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, therefore while this work is being completed, students, parents and visitors can enter through the bus drop off entrance as well as by the band hall.
Once inside the vestibule, parents and visitors will notice new equipment and procedures. These technological additions will help further secure our campus. In addition to working with our construction program team, we have also been working with the GCISD Director of Emergency Management and School Security on these important changes. He is currently working on a video that will detail the new procedures and how to operate the equipment that will also help streamline our visitor process. We will be sharing that video with you in the next few weeks and will also send reminders close to the beginning of school.
Another piece of important information to share is the schedule that Lee Lewis Construction (LLC) has provided us. LLC has told us that all construction will not be complete by the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. The construction schedule shows achieving substantial completion of the renovations by October 18. They have assured us that our interior building spaces will be functional and the learning commons useable but not necessarily complete. In thinking about this, I would ask that you pardon the dust and help us show patience and flexibility as we work with LLC to allow them to work and finish. Obviously, as we go through the summer we will monitor progress and in August begin to communicate about any temporary conditions or processes for our return.
As we approach the beginning of the new school year, it will be imperative to check my newsletters for information. This is an exciting time at Colleyville Middle School and I look forward to enjoying these renovated spaces with our Colt family! If you have any specific questions regarding the construction work CMS renovations, please let me know.
