Perceptions of Our School

Dear Staff,

I am trying to gather input from the HS North community to help me better understand what people believe about our school. I would like each staff member to contribute the first three single words that come to mind when you think of High School North. If you click on the following link: www.menti.com and enter the code 528616 you will be prompted for these three words (your responses are anonymous). It will take you less than one minute to complete. I have asked parents to do the same in my Back to School Night letter that went home at the end of last week. I am sure I will ask students to contribute at some point as well.

The point of this is:

1. to gain an understanding of what our staff, parents and students think of our school.

2. to identify commonalities as well as differences between perceptions of stakeholders.

3. help our administrative team identify what needs to be done to build on our perceived strengths and weaknesses in order for our school to, as a whole, move forward.

I will share results from all groups at a future faculty meeting.

I appreciate your help and support.

Sincerely,

Jon

FYI: October Emergency Drills & Faculty Meetings

1. Later this month we will conduct 2 emergency drills as we traditionally do. One will be a fire drill and the the other will be an off-site evacuation drill where we most likely will be evacuating to larger spaces at both Community Middle School and Millstone River Elementary School. More information to follow.

2. Faculty meetings for the month of October will take place on Monday, October 10th and 17th as you know. The meeting on the 10th will be a traditional General Faculty meeting in the UDH, while the 17th will kick off our PD faculty meetings for this school year. More information to come soon as to the format and logistics around these meetings.

"What if high school were more like Kindergarten?" by Ashley Lamb-Sinclair, The Atlantic

I have a strange-looking, handmade bust of Yoda sitting atop my desk at school. I made this statue in a high-school art class because the teacher asked us to create a life-like bust of a human face. While molding my sculpture, I was exploring a little and pulled the ears into a point. I laughed to myself because it looked just like Yoda. Suddenly, the task transformed from a school assignment to a fun experiment. When I finished, I proudly presented my art to my teacher, who promptly failed me for not following instructions. As a 17-year-old kid, his response cut me to the bone......

What Students Can Learn from Giving TEDx Talks By Linda Flanagan, Mindshift

When Kate Griffith brought a huge batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies into an 8th grade class, she was doing more than sharing her culinary talents with hungry kids. An 8th grader herself, Griffith was conducting an experiment as part of the background research for her upcoming TEDx presentation. The test was simple: anyone willing.....
