Bransford Blast
January 14, 2018
What a great first week of the second semester with our Texans! It was a joy to see each our Texans back and to welcome some new Texans!
This weekend, our students and staff are enjoying a three day weekend. On Monday, January 15, 2018 our students and staff observe Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King is a wonderful example of the power of kindness. He exemplifies the lessons our own Mrs. King has been sharing throughout the building, encouraging our Texans to throw kindness like confetti.
January often brings unpredictable weather. Hot one day and below freezing the next. For this reason, Fitness Force starts up again February 7, 2018. Also, if the ever-changing Texas weather interferes with our school day, you will be informed via School Messenger texting, phone calls, and emails. Please ensure your information is current in Skyward so you receive all important communications.
Looking forward to a great week as we continue to build an excellent school together!
Best,
Jamie Halliburton
BES Principal
Play It Safe
GCISD offers the "Play It Safe" program for all students in grades K-5. The GCISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC is a volunteer council comprised of parents and community members that reflect the values of the district and community) has previewed and recommended these programs for all GCISD elementary schools. The curriculum and presentations are aligned with district philosophy. This program is a personal safety program and does not address human sexuality. Play It Safe is a child abuse prevention and awareness program that incorporates individual grade level, age-appropriate scripts and movies to teach children how to reduce the risk of sexual and physical abuse, and sexual assault. It teaches them to recognize potentially abusive behavior, provides the tools to respond to threatening situations, and encourages them to report abuse to a trusted adult.
A parent preview of the program will be held on Tuesday, January 16th, at 10:00 am or 6:00 pm at the GCISD Administration Building - Board Room, 3051 Ira E. Woods Ave., Grapevine, Texas 76051
If you are unable to attend the parent preview, but wish to view the material, please contact The Women's Center of Tarrant County, Inc. at 817-927-4040 and ask for the Play It Safe department. They will schedule a time for you to go to their center and view the videos.
If you would prefer your child NOT participate in the Play it Safe Program, an Opt-Out form will be sent home in January and you can return it to Mrs. King. Bransford is scheduled for the Play it Safe program on Tuesday, March 6, 2018.
Digital Citizenship Week
GCISD is celebrating Digital Citizenship Week January 9-19. In GCISD, digital citizenship is embedded in the curriculum and revisited any time a class is using technology. In addition, there are two times during the year that we have a district-wide focus on digital citizenship: Back-to-School and in January after returning from the holiday break. We teach digital literacy utilizing Common Sense Education’s K-12 digital citizenship curriculum. Visit https://www.commonsense.org/ for more information about the curriculum and to access Common Sense Media’s parent resources.
