The WJHS Panther Weekly Update
December 18th, 2020
Hello Panther Community
HAPPY HOLIDAYS PANTHER COMMUNITY and ENJOY YOUR BREAK!
We are back (in remote) on January 4th, 2021. As we look forward to the holiday season we hope you enjoy this link from Ms. Q, Emmy and Mr. Jonak! Additionally, HERE are some holiday pictures and videos of Panther staff to the rest of the Panther Community. It's my (Mr. Jonak's) first time playing with green screen, so be gentle with me!
Cameras ON for 2nd Semester
Please no more black screens! The expectation is that cameras will be ON for 2nd semester. When cameras are on, we don’t want to see your awesome light fixtures and ceiling fans. The camera should show our students' wonderful faces in the “windows,” not their wonderful foreheads. Teachers will go over this change in more detail with their classes. Thank you for supporting us in improving student engagement.
Please power off your Chromebook (or have your student do this) at least once a week to make sure everything keeps working without any issues. Thank you!
i-Ready Diagnostics in January
On January 13th and 20th, students will take the iReady Reading and Math diagnostic from their homes. The rest of their day will have 1/2 of their classes with asynchronous instruction, just like in September. More information will follow.
WIN-sdays in January
Wednesdays will be a little different in the first three weeks of January since the i-Ready diagnostic assessments are occurring on January 13th and 20th. Teams will communicate to students plans regarding January 6th, 13th, and 20th.
Students will be FULL REMOTE LEARNING until the week of 1/19/21. Students will follow their REMOTE schedule on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays, and (at WJHS) follow their WIN-sday schedule on Wednesday.
Attached below are the community and revised WJHS-specific schedule/calendar.
Exploratory Classes for 2nd Semester
As a final reminder, please note that two of our exploratory classes will be switching/flip-flopping with one another at the beginning of second semester. If your student is in Art Class this semester, she/he will move into Industrial Technology with Mr. Olley. If your student is currently enrolled in Industrial Technology, she/he will move into Art class with Ms. Kirkwood. This change will occur at the beginning of second semester when we return from Winter Break.
Music and Spanish classes will remain as year long courses and will not change.
Please look for Superintendent Carey's message later today with additional information.
Take good care of yourselves and one another,
Respectfully,
Mr. John K. Jonak
Is your student's Chromebook having issues?
Please power off your Chromebook (or have your student do this) at least once a week to make sure everything keeps working without any issues. Thank you!

Tips for parents regarding Teacher Office Hours:
Please confirm with your student that he/she is participating. Students with missing assignments or grades below a C should be meeting with teachers during this time to get caught up and receive extra help. Students with up to date assignments and grades C or above should use this time to check in with teachers, ask questions, and receive feedback.
Library books still checked out from last year? Email Mrs. Centeno at scenteno@cusd201.org to make arrangements for return. Lost? Replacement costs will be added to your Skyward account.
