Asian American Pacific Islander Month
At Eisenhower Elementary, we are so fortunate to have the rich diversity of our XinXing staff, who come from many different parts of China, and Taiwan. The following resource is a great way to learn more about Asian American history through children's literature.
Important information regarding mask mandate
Governor Walz lifted the mask mandate for indoor spaces for those who are fully vaccinated. Please note that schools are still required to follow the guidelines in the School Safety Plan, which remain in place through the end of this school year.
Masks are required through the end of the school year for our scholars and staff in all of our indoor spaces — this includes busses. Masks are no longer required for outdoor activities and are “optional but encouraged” for students engaged in outdoor recess, outdoor physical education, and other outside learning activities. We will share guidance for our summer programming as soon as it is available.
Additional Vaccination Information
Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is safe and easy. Everyone in your family 12 years old or older is eligible for vaccination. Anyone may sign up with the State by using the Vaccine Connector online or over the phone at 833-431-2053. Translations are available in Spanish, Hmong, and Somali. You may also sign up with the County by registering here: COVID-19 Registration Form. Many healthcare providers and retailers with pharmacies also now provide vaccination. They include Cub Food, Hy-Vee, Thrifty White Pharmacy, and Walmart / Sam’s Club.
The state has expanded its vaccination services by offering vaccination at the state fairgrounds. From now through May 4, the state has included walk-in vaccinations, with no appointment needed. For more information, please see this MDH website.

Medication Pick Up
Parents/Guardians
Please pick up any unused medication(s) that your child has in the nurse's office by the last day of school. Medication cannot be sent home with students. By school policy we are required to discard/ destroy all remaining medication whether nonprescription or prescription which has not been taken home. The school cannot store any medication for the following school year.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our school nurse Laura Kelzer at Laura.Kelzer@hopkinsschools.org or 952-988-4304.
2021-2022 Distance Learning and Transportation
This week we asked you to fill out two brief surveys. The first survey, “Hopkins Public Schools Distance Learning Survey”, was in regard to your distance learning preferences for 2021-2022. The second survey, “Hopkins Public Schools Transportation Survey”, was in regard to your tentative transportation needs for 2021-2022. It is critical that we receive this information from you so we can best allocate our resources for the 2021-2022 school year. We will follow up with you this summer to confirm your choices.
We understand that this is a busy time of year and many of our community members are experiencing survey-fatigue. We appreciate your time and voice in planning for your scholar’s future and the future of Hopkins Public Schools.
Second Vaccination Clinic Scheduled
In partnership with a local medical group called CommunityCare Clinics, Hopkins Public Schools will host a second vaccination clinic for our scholars ages 12 and up on June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lindbergh Center.
The clinic is open to all Hopkins families over the age of 12. The timing is appropriate for anyone who received the first dose at one of our Hopkins clinics in May to receive their second. However, first doses can be administered too.
All scholars ages 12 and up may attend this clinic. This clinic is now open to all Hopkins Public Schools family member ages 12 and up. Hopkins is not able to provide transportation; however, Lyft and Uber are both offering free rides for vaccinations. Kids must be accompanied by an adult.
There is no need to make an appointment. Please note, anyone under the age of 12 must bring an authorization form to the clinic.
Personalized Math Lab Experience - Digital Version
Are you interested in learning more about what personalized math could look like in Hopkins elementary schools? Hopkins teachers demonstrated a model currently being explored at Alice Smith Elementary. An in-person experience was held on May 10, but attendance was limited due to COVID. The virtual experience is available. This screencast and slide deck capture the experience digitally. We appreciate your continued engagement on behalf of your Hopkins learner. If you have questions, please contact Director of IDL Ann Ertl at Ann.Ertl@hopkinsschools.org .

Cultural Corner
June 1st is probably one of the most anticipated days for kids all around China. In Chinese, this day is called “六一儿童节” (June 1st children’s festival, liùyī értóng jié). Although for children, every day could be spent as if it was a holiday, still having a festival dedicated to them is definitely something worth celebrating!
It is a good time of the year for field trips (郊游, jiāoyóu). Teachers might take their students for a trip to the park, museum or zoo. Even if just staying in at the school, there could be a lot of interesting events, from playing team games to watching animations, something students seldom get to do.Occasionally, some schools might use this day to host gala shows, where kids dance and sing together. School turns into a big party for students on Children’s day, unlike their usual school day where they need to work hard! The celebration will go on after school. Parents often pick up their kids earlier than usual to spend time together as a family. As it is usually warm and sunny in early June in China, it’s a good time to spend exploring the outdoors.Announcing the Book Written About our Very Own School!
It’s the amazing true story about the ducks who return each year to the Eisenhower courtyard to lay their eggs. Created as a gift by the parent duo Brad and Laurie Gilmore with the support of the PTO, this beautiful keepsake celebrates this annual event that everyone loves to hear about. All proceeds from your purchase fund the upkeep of our courtyard and other PTO activities in support of our students.
