A weekly newsletter - December 18, 2020
Message from Dr. Emily Delgado, Associate Principal
Happy Holidays! This week concludes our first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. This week students completed their midterm exams and when teachers return on January 4th and 5th for their work days, they will finalize grades and students semester averages will be calculated. Students that did not earn their credit due to a semester average below 70 will need to work hard to ensure that the spring semester averages are much higher to ensure student success in earning the full course credit. After the holiday break, teachers will be working hard to prepare their virtual and in person classrooms for students when they return on January 6th.
As I reflect on the learning experience throughout this semester, I recognize the challenges and struggles that we all faced. What is so remarkable is how everyone has persevered through it all. I am undoubtedly proud of our students, staff, and community at large. During this difficult time, we have pulled together and supported one another. Even though the virus keeps us physically distant, our care and concern for one another have kept us close. Our entire PHS family continues to inspire me to do better and be better. Thank you all for your will to persevere, for your kind heart to reach out to those in need, and for your ingenuity to find new ways to make teaching and learning work. I wish you all a safe and restful break and hope that you are able to joyfully ring in 2021!

Second Semester – Schedule Changes
Families and students, due to the request to change mode of instruction for students for the 3rd nine weeks, there will be schedule changes for students upon returning to the 2nd semester. All students will want to check their Skyward account on January 6th to see their new schedule. Because grades will not post for the 2nd Nine Weeks until January 5th, the new schedules will not show in Skyward until the 6th. Please make sure you log into your Skyward account on the 6th to see if you had any schedule changes.
Make-up Hours
We are in the process of calculating make-up hours for 1st semester. Students will be notified through school email once each grade level is complete. Students with 5+ absences in one class will accrue make-up hours. Please refer Skyward for grades and attendance for your student.
From our Department Chairs
FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
Panthers,
Great things are continuing to happen at PHS! The FCS department would like to congratulate both our Football and Volleyball teams for making it to the playoffs this year. We are so proud of our student athletes and their dedication to their sport and dedication & hard work in the classroom.
Additionally, for the 15th year in a row Pflugerville High School was named the “Coats For Kids Champion” for the most coats donated in the high school category. Each year the Ready Set Teach classes organize this worthwhile project and our Panther Pfamily always show what generous and giving hearts they have. This was a great opportunity to truly make a difference in our community and provide a warm coat to those in need.
As we head into to the holiday break we encourage all students to take a look at the CTE Course Handbook and all of the classes and pathways offered by our CTE department – Architecture & Construction, Health Sciences, Agriculture, Education & Human Services, STEM, Visual Communications and Business Mang. & Finances – there is something for everyone!
We wish each of you and your family a restful and safe holiday!
Always Proud To Be A Panther,

FAMILY AND CONSUMER SCIENCES DEPARTMENT
Hi, Panther Parents!
Last week I highlighted Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness, this week I’d like to spotlight Child Development!
Child Development is a fantastic option that is part of the Teaching & Training Pathway and the Family and Community Services Pathway. It is a 1 credit, yearlong course for students in grades 10-12. The course covers topics that are essential for successful adulthood as well as career specific topics for students interested in working with children.
Child Development has always been a popular class to take outside of pathways because it offers hands on curriculum that is focused around Project Based Learning. Students can expect to spend each class period working with their peers and engaging in learning that is student centered. Topics covered in class include pregnancy and development, labor and delivery, infancy through early childhood development, child abuse and neglect, nutrition and building healthy eating patterns in children, and much more! Career skills are an important focus of this course and we build on skills such as working with peers, proper ways to communicate, healthy relationships, problem-solving, and critical thinking!
Best,
