CSHS Weekly Bulletin
October 8-13, 2018
Happy Fall, Y'all!
Dear Cougar Family,
If I squint just right, cock my head to the side, and have my sunglasses on, I think I can see some fall color appearing in the trees on my drive home from school. I think the Fall Harvest movies on Hallmark are impacting my eyesight...nonetheless, I am pretending that temperatures have dropped and that fall is in the air!
On Monday, we will have the opportunity to reflect together on our professional practices during our ethics discussions in the morning, and then we'll have time to work in professional learning communities on curriculum and lesson design in the afternoon. Click here for the full detailed schedule for the day and be sure you have registered in Eduphoria (the link is in the schedule). Please be sure to have completed the ProEthica modules (see instructions I sent out in last week's bulletin message if needed). Instructional paraprofessionals are included in the groups for the morning session.
In the meantime, Happy Fall, y'all! May you all have an exceptional week!
As always, COUGAR PRIDE!

P.S. Don't forget to submit your rough draft of the student growth measure in your evaluator's course in Schoology!
Cougar Qualities--Goal-oriented
PSAT Day--THIS WEDNESDAY!
Test Training for October 10 will take place during staff development on Monday, 10/8. We will have 3 activities that day: PSAT for 10th and 11th, a practice English EOC for 9th, and varied activities for Seniors (including CPR and Dating Violence Training required by state law.)
Randi sent an email regarding the room usage list--search for it in Google if needed. Please check the list carefully to see if your classroom is on the list. The list includes how many desks (yes, they must be desks) need to be in the room. If you have more than the quantity listed, no worries. If you do not have enough desks, you'll need to borrow some from other classrooms. We will NOT be using science labs (except for 2106 and 2110), so those would be good options for acquiring extra desks for your room. All desks much face the same direction. Additionally, for the PSAT, all desks much be spaced so that students are 4 feet apart from one another (measure from the center of one desk to the center of another). Thank you in advance for having your desks test-ready before 3:50 PM on Tuesday, 10/9.

NEXT WEEKEND: EdCamp CSTX
What's an EdCamp?
EdCamps are free PD built around conversations instead of presentation. The sessions are created on the morning of the event by the people who attend, for the people who attend. Here's a 1 min video overview of how an EdCamp works.
Why attend EdCampCSTX?
I have attended a handful of EdCamps, and I have yet to leave disappointed. Without going on and on, here are a few of the things I really enjoy about EdCamps:
- The people you meet (and the ways it's easy to stay connected throughout the year)
- The power of conversations (as opposed to presentations) for professional learning
- The chance to learn about whatever I want from educators throughout the day (& to learn SO much throughout one day)
- The fantastic giveaways at the end of the day (i.e. great books, subscriptions to services, even conference registrations)
But won't it take up my entire Saturday?
Not this year! Our day will run from 8:00-12:30, so you won't have to give up your entire Saturday to participate in EdCampCSTX.
Can I get comp time?
Yes! CSISD employees can sign up in Eduphoria and complete the survey after the event to earn 4 hours of comp time.
More info & registration
The EdCampCSTX website is the best place to get more info. If you're already sold and want to know where to sign up, you can take care of the free registration here.
If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. We are looking forward to this day of learning. I hope that you can be part of EdCampCSTX!
