Bulldog Scoop
New Britton Elementary 5/22/2020
News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
We would like to thank you for a wonderful and eventful year of learning. The 4th 9 weeks of our year has been an interesting one for sure! We have really been able to apply our Bulldog expectation of "Choose Your Attitude." We appreciate the team effort from students, parents, and teachers in making the best of this difficult situation. I am confident that we have learned many new skills and lessons that will help us into the future. Although we do not know what the future may bring, I know one thing to be true - together we can do this! We have a planning team at the district level that is coming up with some different options for the start of school for 2020-2021. As we hear more from the governor, our leadership team will develop the best plan for Hamilton Southeastern Schools. I will continue to send Skylert updates throughout the summer to keep you informed.
Please remember that we have created a New Britton plan for the drop-off of school supplies/resources (iPads, library books, and classroom materials). Our specific plan was emailed to you on Monday, May 18th, and you can also access it with this link.
https://nbe.hseschools.org/happenings/news/school-supply-drop-off-drive-through
We appreciate your help in closely reviewing this plan to ensure a safe and efficient process. We know that we will all need to be extra patient during this drop-off time as our volunteers do their best to assist you.
To stay updated, please be sure to review Dr. Bourff's video message as well as the FAQ section of our HSE website as this does provide answers to many questions and is continuously updated. Our website will continue to be updated throughout the coming weeks and into the summer as we plan as a state, city, and school corporation for the upcoming school year.
Our priority continues to be making positive connections and helping support your student's social-emotional needs during this time! Please let us know if you need anything. It has been a pleasure to serve you and your student this school year. As always, thank you for partnering with us in education! Stay healthy and safe.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin
School Supply Kits for 2020-2021
The New Britton Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is once again offering school supply kits for the next school year. We apologize for the delay in getting the sale up and running, but we have made changes to our supply lists in light of Covid-19, including planning for non-communal supplies and extra hand sanitizer. For this reason, the kits cost a couple of dollars more than they have in the past.
https://www.educationalproducts.com/ShopPacks/
Our school code is NEW302
Ordering will be ONLINE ONLY and will be open until June 14th. Late ordering will be available after that until July 7th, but please note that the cost of the kit will be $2 higher for late ordering.
Any questions, please email Leslie Zeisig at lesliezeisig@gmail.com
A Few Changes to the New Britton Staff Family
Wishing You Well - Mr. Gorrill
As we mentioned in morning announcement with our "Where in the World is Mr. Gorrill" segment, Mr. Gorrill and his family will be starting a new adventure in the Dominican Republic. They hope to leave at the beginning of August. We would like to thank him for his dedication to our Bulldog learning community! Mr. Gorrill has served in so many roles as a B-U-L-L-D-O-G:
- Builder, building strong relationships with students, staff, and families. He also likes to physically build things out of wood - such a talented wood worker! He served as an expert with the building of our gaga pit.
- Understander, seeking to understand the varying perspectives of children, staff, families, and community members
- Learner, modeling that learning is a lifelong habit
- Leader, leading by example and empowering others to use their skills and talents
- Doer, jumping into help wherever there may be a need
- Optimizer, looking for innovative, efficient ways to help our school run smoothly
- Grower, growing thoughts, ideas, and actions to make New Britton a wonderful learning community
Mr. Gorrill, we wish you the best! We are certainly going to miss you!

Katy Lee - New Assistant Principal
A Little About Me:
This is my first year as a Bulldog, but my 20th year in education. Over the years I have been a classroom teacher in grades 1-3 and have been an ENL collaborative teacher in grades K-4. This will be my third year as an Assistant Principal, and I am eager to bring my experience, energy, and enthusiasm to New Britton! I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 17 years. We have two daughters- Samaira is a freshman at Fishers High School and Josslyn is a seventh grader at Fall Creek Junior High. We have two silly dogs, Frannie and Penny. They love napping, chasing bunnies and eating carrots for treats.
What Brings Me Joy:
My family brings me so much joy. We love taking bike rides, traveling to new places, and looking for hiking trails and other outdoor adventures wherever we go. My little nieces and nephews bring me joy as well. They all live far away, but we try visiting them whenever we can. I love reading, and when I discover a new series or author, it is hard for me to put my book down. I hope you like reading, too! Learning brings me joy. Every day I look forward to coming to school and being a part of the learning and growing!
Favorite Food:
I wish it weren’t so, but I love candy! I also love breakfast for dinner!
Favorite Place to Visit:
Because we are so spread out, I love visiting family. I have family in Florida, Minnesota, New York City and Washington DC. If I were to go anywhere in the world, I would visit South Korea. My husband’s parents grew up in Seoul and came to the United States when they were in college. We haven’t been there yet, but I really want to take my daughters there so they can experience that side of their heritage. The place I love most is my home. I love my neighborhood and feel very lucky to live in the Fishers community.
