Girl's Soccer Bi-District Champions
Girls Golf - District Champion
The Medina Valley Girls Golf Team competed at Pleasanton Country Club on March 26th and 27th, in the 28-5A district golf tournament. The girls came out on fire on day 1 shooting a combined score of 364 to take a commanding 57 stroke lead. The girls did not let up on Day 2 finishing the round with a 365 and a two day total of 729. The girls finished the tournament with a dominating performance to win the district championship beating the second place team by 97 strokes. The team consisted of Gabriela McNelly, Autumn Bjorklund, Hannah Dowell, Bailey Matsumura, and Kiley Winkler. With the 1st place finish the team qualified for the Regional Tournament to be held at Plainview Golf Course in McAllen, Texas on April 22nd and 23rd. Individually, the girls were just as good. Gabriela McNelly started off day 1 by shooting a 74 and followed that up with a 2 under par 70 to finish the tournament with a total score of 144 and 1st place honors. Gabriela's round was highlighted by a streak of birdies including a 40 foot birdie putt on hole 11. Autumn Bjorklund started of day 1 with a score of 86 and followed that up with an incredible round of 81 on day 2 to finish the tournament with a 167 to take 2nd place. Other individual finishes included Hannah Dowell in 5th place, Bailey Matsumura in 10th place, Kiley Winkler in 17th place, and Emily Lindbeck in 21st place. Way to go girls and good luck at Regionals!

MVHS Model Citizens of the Week
MVHS Model Citizens of the Week are nominated by students and staff. Selection criteria is based on the American Citizenship Awards for students who:
- Participate in school and/or community service
- Show a positive attitude toward classmates, school, and the community
- Display an understanding and appreciation of civic responsibility
- Possess strength of character and the courage to do what is right

On Saturday, the UIL Academics team traveled to Southside High School for their district meet. The individual results are as follows:

Congratulations to all the students and coaches for one of the most successful district meets in recent history. Students who advanced to Regionals will compete at UTSA on April 12th & 13th. This was the third of four district competitions following the district Cross-examination meet in February and the One-Act-Play meet in March. The UIL Speech & Debate team will travel to Floresville on Wednesday for their district competition. Good luck to them!
Softball
March 26, 2019
Varsity faced incarnate word high school yesterday. Trista Miller threw a shut-out beating Incarnate Word by a score of 10-0
Panthers secured the victory thanks to seven runs in the fifth inning. Miller, Jadelynn Manriquez, Emily Friesenhahn, Trystan Benke, and Ashley DeCock each had RBIs in the frame.
Miller earned the win for Panthers. She went five innings, allowing zero runs on one hit, striking out four and walking zero.
Panthers saw the ball well, racking up nine hits in the game. Friesenhahn and DeCock each had multiple hits for Panthers. Friesenhahn led the Panthers with three hits in three at bats.

Varsity softball faced Southwest Legacy on Friday night. Ashley DeCock led the panthers past Legacy with a 7-1 victory.
JV Black also sailed to an easy victory over Southwest Legacy. Madison Sotelo was the winning pitcher of record.
Baseball
March 29, 2019
The Panthers hosted the fellow first-place Uvalde Coyotes this past Friday. The game came down to the wire, with the Panthers taking the victory on a dramatic walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. The game was tied at five with the Panthers batting. Charlie Marsh registered a single on the first pitch of his at-bat, driving in Grant Snider to win the game.
Mason Doyon started the game on the mound for the Panthers. He pitched four solid innings before turning it over to JJ Marty. JJ threw three shut-out innings to gather the win.
Leading the Panther offense was Cole Modgling with three hits. Garrett Leggitt and Charlie Marsh each contributed two hits. Dylan Fillinger got things rolling in the first with an RBI single, also.
The Panthers are now 14-3 and 7-2 in district. Tuesday the Panthers travel to take on San Antonio Home School, and then travel to Southwest Legacy on Friday.
JV Baseball

Tuesday evening the JV Panthers demolished the JV Cardinals from Southside 10 to 0. Jared LaQue pitched the entire game for the Panthers striking out 9 and only walking 2 Cardinal batters. Garrett Kanak and Tanner Haby provided the offensive punch for the Panthers as each had 2 RBI doubles in the game.

In JV Baseball action, the Panthers faced off against the Uvalde Coyotes Friday evening. The game was a hard fought on both sides and ended in an 8 to 8 tie.

FFA Update
The Medina Valley FFA placed 2nd as a team at the Robertson County CDE Contest! Case Henrich placed 2nd out of 283 individuals and Tristan Zinsmeyer placed 3rd in the sheep and goat division.
The horse, livestock, land, and homesite evaluation teams traveled to Texas A&M University for judging clinics and the poultry team competed in a contest at the poultry center today! The poultry judging team placed 16th and Garrison Garza placed 10th high as an individual! The Medina Valley FFA worked hard at the clinic in preparation for area and state contests approaching in April and May. Congrats, poultry judging!

Southwest Texas Junior College Orientation
SWTJC Orientation at MVHS is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 30 from 9-11 a.m. This orientation is a requirement for all new/incoming dual credit students. This will be the only orientation offered at MVHS. If a student cannot attend they will have to attend an orientation offered at a different location.
