De Leon Library News
Fall 2013
De Leon Library
It's been a very busy couple of months here at De Leon MS and the library program has been just as busy trying to keep up. Here is a summary of what has been happening in our library program. I hope you enjoy this first e-newsletter and visit our library for the many resources we offer our students and teachers.
Family Literacy Night
The De Leon Library hosted a Family Literacy Night on Tuesday, Nov. 12th. Parents were provided the opportunity to speak to teachers about Reading Tips and Ideas for Home. The McAllen Public Library was also available to give parents and students information about the many resources it offers. Students also AR tested for a chance to win door prizes. Thank you to Ms. L. Peppe, 7th Gr. ELA teacher for helping organize this event and thank you to all in attendance.
Author Stephanie Bodeen Visits De Leon Library
We had a great visit by award-winning author S.E. Bodeen on Monday, Nov. 11th. 7th Grade students from Mrs. Zahid, Ms. Richwood, and Ms. Peppe's ELA classes attended one of the author sessions to learn about the author's experiences as a writer. In addition, the Lion's R.O.A.R. Book Club students that read the book The Compound were invited to have Lunch with the Author. These students enjoyed a very special day meeting one of their favorite young adult authors!
Lion's R.O.A.R. Book Club
The De Leon Library was proud to start the new 2013-14 school year with the announcement of the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. This beautiful story teaches about the true meaning of kindness and courage. Pictured are the Wonderful students that shared their appreciation for this very amazing book.
