Welcome to the gifted community in PVSchools! Please look for our parent newsletter each quarter. In these newsletters, we will share news and information, recommend resources, and send you invitations to events we schedule here in PVSchools and other opportunities around the valley. Whether your gifted child is in preschool, elementary, middle or high school, in these newsletters you will find information intended to help you support and prepare your gifted child for successful learning opportunities in our schools.

Gifted Intelligence: A Psychological Perspective with Dr. Paul Beljan

Dr. Beljan will present several concepts common to gifted intelligence. Topic highlights will include:

  • Common signs that children with gifted intelligence present

  • Asynchronous development and its possible origins.

  • Important diagnostic concepts in the diagnosis of gifted intelligence?

  • So your child is gifted; now what?

In addition to basic concepts in understanding gifted and talented youth, the audience will be presented with a hypothesis to explain what may be different in a gifted child’s brain that results in asynchronous development and various exceptionalities.


Dr. Paul Beljan, PsyD, ABPd, ABN, is a pediatric neuropsychologist in private practice at Beljan Psychological Services in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Beljan is an expert in evaluating and understanding gifted children and their common misdiagnoses. Along with Dr. James Webb, Dr. Beljan is a co-author of the book: Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnosis of Gifted Children and Adults: ADHD, BiPolar, OCD, Depression, and Other Disorders.

Digital Learning Center Parent Event & Student Shadow Opportunities

Are you considering middle school gifted programming options for your child? If so, please join us for our Digital Learning Center parent night presentation and tour.

October 2, 2019, 6 00 PM - Parent night presentation. Located in the Sunrise Middle School Media Center

October 3, 2019 9:00 AM - Student DLC observations & Parent school tour. Please meet and check-in at the Sunrise Middle School office at 9 am.

About the DLC:

The Digital Learning Center (DLC) is a PVUSD gifted Middle school program which provides students with an interdisciplinary, project-based learning environment that embodies 21st Century learning. Science (8th), social studies (7th), and literature are combined within the DLC, allowing for a unique problem-based learning environment. This cross-curricular exploration will take students through the 7th and 8th grade standards with built-in continuity, exploring how science, history, literature, writing, and being a gifted learner fit into this world.

Congratulations!

ElizaBeth Warner, gifted program mentor, participated and presented at the first-ever Khan Academy Summer Summit for Teacher Leadership. She was one of 14 teachers across the country invited to collaborate with Khan leadership at the Khan headquarters in Mountain View, Calif. During the two day summit, ElizaBeth presented on student motivation and learning ownership. Additionally, she was named a Khan Academy Ambassador for the second consecutive year. Leslie Martin, gifted specialist at North Ranch Elementary, was also named a Khan Academy Ambassador this year. Mrs. Warner is pictured with Sal Khan.
