UCAS Welcome Back Edition 2020

August 20, 2020

Message from Administration

So Glad to have you back!

Hello UCAS Family,

I think that by the end of the school year everyone’s nickname will be Gumby. The plastic bendable figure from my childhood is only a small reflection of the flexibility that will be required to make this year successful. Already I applaud our students, our parents, and the UCAS staff for bending over backwards to ensure a successful start. I attest that it was worth it! To see the students walk into school on the first day was exciting and maybe a bit nerve-wracking for them, but for the faculty and staff it was a sigh of relief. Relief because the hard work of planning and preparation had paid off. In walked a group of young adults, eager to reunite with old friends and make new ones, excited to learn from each other and their teachers, and full of the spirit of a generation who maybe learned the value of in-person interaction after being in online school for 3 months last year. Thank you for taking the school plan seriously by wearing your masks properly and respecting social distancing. Your effort to protect each other is unprecedented.

To everyone involved who made the start of school a success, I thank you. I look forward to a year full of new challenges and great learning opportunities. Stay flexible…be gumby.

Mrs. Derbidge

School pictures- - date change

The date for school pictures has been moved to September 18. This is a Friday, and will require that ALL students plan to come in to their home campus to get a student ID photo. We also use these photos for school security, in addition to offering picture packages for purchase. (optional.) Watch for further information and details for your assigned time.

Labor Day Week Schedule

Students: Labor day week is coming, and because it is a holiday week, and we have no school on Monday of that week, please plan to attend with your cohort on the following schedule:

Cohort A= Tuesday and Thursday

Cohort B= Wednesday and Friday

School meals

In addition to meals at the school Monday- Thursday, we are offering Friday grab and go meals. Students need to pre-order these meals and can pick them up at the Orem or Provo campus. Watch your email for the weekly order invitation.

Also, remember that meals that are pre-ordered are also charged to your account, so please remember to pick them up!

Student council opportunities: Provo campus

Provo UCAS is looking for some amazing students to be part of our Student Council. If you are a Freshman or Sophomore, please consider joining us. Student Council is an advisory class. Since we aren't all on campus together to get to know one another, this year's student council will be selected from applications. Students in both grades and both cohorts are needed. If you are creative, fun, and have a desire to build school spirit at UCAS during these unusual times, Student Council is for you. Applications will be available at the front desk downstairs on Monday, August 24th. They need to be submitted by Friday, August 28th. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Thornock via email: mailto:krista.thornock@ucas-edu.net. This is a great opportunity to get involved.

Attention Seniors!

Seniors: UVU on-campus classes start on Monday, August 24th. Make sure you check your schedules so you know what classes you have, and where to go.
