FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK...
Called by Name
Dear Parents,
I am sure that you know that this Sunday, January 26, from 12:30-2:30 is our Open House. Many hours of work, many student and adult volunteers and a great deal of extensive planning will culminate this Sunday. I am deeply grateful for all of the dedication and faith-filled commitment which have gone into making this day a very special one for the St. John the Baptist School community. We are very excited to welcome our potential new families, our special guests from the classes of 1970 and 1995 and our current families.
As we welcome new and prospective families to our school and as we celebrate our school with our current families, let us keep our Mission in Mind. This is who we are.
The Mission of St. John the Baptist School
To inspire students to live faith-filled lives
and to be, like St. John the Baptist,
heralds of God’s love in the world
Our Open House is also the beginning of our Catholic Schools Week celebrations. We will begin with an All School Mass on Monday, and each day will have a special focus and events. We hope that you will join us for Mass. Please see the other events listed in the newsletter.
It is fitting that the readings during this week focus on those who are called by name by the Lord. On Tuesday in I Samuel, we hear of David being anointed king by the prophet Samuel. “And from that day forward the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David.” Later in in this week we hear of Jesus calling Peter and Andrew. On Friday we read the names of the twelve Apostles who Jesus calls by name.
May our Open House and our celebration of Catholic Schools Week remind us that we have been called by name. May we listen for the Lord to call us and respond with here I am, Lord. As we greet, welcome and invite new families to join us at St. John the Baptist School and to become partners in our Mission, may we all hear our names when we are called.
Sincerely,
Daniel A. Minelli
