The Falcon Report
October 21, 2016
Welcome!
From the District Administrator's Office
One drill we have not actually practiced for a number of years is an off-site evacuation. An off-site evacuation would be necessary if we had some kind of occurrence that made it unsafe for students and staff to stay on school grounds. We need to practice, because moving over 700 people to a different location requires coordination and an understanding by all.
On Tuesday, November 1st (rain date of November 2nd) we will be conducting an off-site evacuation drill. Our off-site location we will go to is St. Anthony's church in Tony. The way the drill works is we will evacuate the building as we normally do. Then, when we have accounted for everyone, each of the groups in the reporting areas will be instructed to go to the buses. We will load everyone up, go to St. Anthony's, and once again account for everyone. Once we have verified that everyone is present, we will return everyone to school to continue our day.
We hope we never need to evacuate off-site, but if we do, we will be prepared.
From the Elementary Principal's Office
I wanted to thank the First Grade Team and Reading Teachers for setting up the reading day on the 17th. Even the rain could not keep our readers away from dressing up as their favorite book character. Also thanks to the parents and grandparents that bring the kids in for nights like these at the school. Not only is it a way to bond together, but it shows that you place importance on reading, which is a powerful idea to pass on to them.
From the Middle/High School Principal's Office
Coming up for Middle School students will be the opportunity to join my new Principal’s Book Club. The book that I have chosen for our first round is titled “The Four Fingered Man”. I look forward to having middle school students join my group—we will have tons of fun together!
From the Athletic Director's Office
If sports isn't your thing how about a murder mystery theater or a haunted house? All activities provided by our kids. The haunted house takes place right in the small gym and is a local favorite. So no lack of something to do. Our FFA group headed to Indianapolis this week for the National Convention, and are sure to have a great time and enjoy many opportunities with other future farmers. Make sure you keep an eye on the calendar, as we have several fall and winter concerts and programs coming up. Please come out and support our young people and their dedicated coaches and advisors.
From the Special Education Director's Office
There are many good resources for student-led conference tips and tricks, but I found this one to be particularly helpful. Truman Middle School provided this "Survival Guide" list to parents, and I thought it was a great list of things to keep in mind for your student's conferences. The link is below if you'd like to read the full letter.
