Principal's Message

Good afternoon Junior Jacket families,

We cannot believe it's the week of Thanksgiving! Didn't this school year just start? In the spirit of being thankful and grateful, we hope that you will consider reaching out to at least one Junior Jacket Staff Member this week that has made an impact on your child. This may be as simple as a kind email, having your child create a card/note of thanks, or checking off an item on an Amazon Wishlist. Regardless of the way you say thank you, please know what a positive impact it will make on the staff member's day. We are very lucky to be a school where every single staff member works tirelessly to make FMES a very special place to be.

Let me also say THANK YOU to our families and school community for your support and grace this school year. Your support is so very appreciated. We hope you enjoy this upcoming weekend together with your family and friends.

Buzzworthy Reads

We are excited to share with you different books each week that our staff at FMES highly recommends! Keep reading Junior Jackets!

Ashley Shaw - Speech Teacher

My favorite book is "Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving" by Dav Pilkey. This book is recommended for all readers.

It is a great picture book about Thanksgiving written by Dav Pilkey (author of Captain Underpants and Dog Man series) that the family will enjoy. Not only does it have a great message of friendship and love, but it is funny and kids of all ages will LOVE it! It is one of my all time favorites.

Erin Love - Lead Teacher

My favorite book is "Love That Dog" by Sharon Creech. This book is recommended for intermediate readers.

I love that this book is written from the perspective of a boy learning to write poetry at school. You get a glimpse into his beautiful relationship with his dog, his teacher, writing, and poetry. 5 Stars from Mrs. Love!

Literacy Tip of the Week - You've Got Mail

Did you know that writing letters is a wonderful way for your child to practice many important writing skills? In a world of social media and text messaging, human relationships have become very digitalized and less personal. Do you remember the excitement of getting a personal piece of mail? Teaching your children to send handwritten notes to family members, community members, teachers, or even a pen pal from across town (or the world!) will help improve their handwriting skills, self esteem, sense of belonging, and help him or her to build closer relationships. Everyone will have to write important letters at some point in their life, whether it's to obtain college admission or to write a cover letter with a job application. Writing letters to loved ones now will help your child grow their vocabulary, improve grammar usage, and better express themselves through the written word!

Literacy Lounge Update!

Our Literacy Lounge is up and running and our students love the time they get to spend there just enjoying reading and writing. We would love to continue to grow what we can offer for our students. We are adding art supplies and calm lighting, but if you are interested in donating any items, there is a link in the button below for a wish list. We are also adding a sound system to the Lounge, so if you have any old classical/jazz instrumental music, we would greatly appreciate it!

PTO Teacher Gift Card Cart

Please see the message below from our PTO:

The PTO, in collaboration with the FMES Event Committee, are looking for gift cards for each of our staff members to do a Christmas tree “gift card” cart. If you are able and willing to donate a gift card or two, it would be greatly appreciated. Your gift card can be from any retail store, gas station, grocery store, restaurant, fast food, or any other business.

Please make sure your gift card has the amount on it and you can turn your gift cards in to the receptionist Kelly Mac no later than Monday December 6th.

Thank you so much for your continued support of our FMES Teachers & Staff.
