TES Weekly Update

October 14, 2016

A Few Words...

Thank you so much for being receptive to new ideas and mindsets, not just from the in-services, but from the start of school. This week alone I visited classrooms with teachers trying out Waggle, Think Central resources, Pearson Realize for online Science/Pearson Science, components of Journeys, higher order problem solving in math, OnCourse hurdles, in addition to meeting the social/emotional interactions/needs of students/classmates. THANK YOU :)

I hope you have noticed that Janet and I have made a commitment to being more visible in the classrooms, lunchrooms, recess, etc. We hope to pop in during lessons rather than just being "seen" on observation days in the classrooms. The more teachers & students get adjusted to us being there the better :)

We made it through progress reporting within OnCourse and provided Prek-1 with a Google doc that can be updated for 2nd and 3rd trimester. Thanks for keeping me up to date with OnCourse issues! Don't hesitate to email me if you are unsure :)

I will be sharing a SGO conference schedule with all teachers. Please "submit" your SGO before scheduling a meeting time on the shared spreadsheet. I will send you a Google Calendar date for our meeting. Scheduling for pre-conferences and observations is underway and will be scheduled using Google Calendar. OnCourse Resources for observations will be posted in the Teachers Google Classroom. Please submit your PDP either through Google classroom or print a hard copy for my mailbox to review.

It was disappointing to not announce the Super Spatula grade level award winner since not all class points were accounted for. This takes effort on all our parts and will only be successful if we put the effort and value into it. If you have cafeteria duty, we are counting on realistic expectations for the grade level and consistency with scoring. Points for each lunch period are expected.

School Violence Violence Awareness Week 10/17 - 10/21 Focuses on positive and safe behaviors.

Red Ribbon Week - 10/24 - 10/28 Although 6th grade has a special presentation from PJHS, all grade levels should incorporate drug awareness lessons.

http://redribbon.org/downloads/ tons of ideas!

Here is the NJDOE memo with additional resources http://www.state.nj.us/education/students/safety/behavior/violence_memo.pdf

I will be out of the building 10/20 & 10/21 to attend the Fall NJSPA convention and Janet will be attending NJ School Boards Convention 10/25 - 10/27 and will be out of the building.

There will be a Code Blue/Shelter in Place coming up this month. Once a date has been determined, we will share it with staff in advance.

Please finalize your plans for Halloween and inform Mrs. Lank if you will be having a class party after the 1:15 parade. This year we are requiring a RSVP for class parties to send to the office to prevent a long line of visitors scanning in. A Halloween letter will be sent home this week encouraging visitors to get pre-scanned.

Thanks for all you do!
