Dear Center Community,
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving break filled with joyful, peaceful gatherings. Given the short week ahead, the next update will be sent out on December 4th. A reminder that Wednesday, November 23rd is a half-day for all students and staff.
As we approach this season of thanksgiving we are ever grateful for the caring, supportive, and dedicated Center community. There is a true partnership between staff and families to make Center a nurturing and effective place to learn and grow. Thank you for our sweet treats on Thursday. They were a nice sur"pies" :).

Notes from the nurse: Attention 3rd grade families
Dear 3rd Grade Parent,
Please remember to send in a copy of your child’s required third grade physical for the 2022-23 school year, if you have not already done so. A physical completed between Jan 2022 and June 2023 (18 months) is requested. A Physical Exam includes a statement that your child has no physical restrictions and communicates that your child is safe to participate in all school activities.
Massachusetts General Law 105 CMR 200.00 Section 100 requires that a child be examined every three to four years after entering school. Chelmsford Public Schools requires a physical exam on file for all kindergarten, third, sixth, and ninth graders You may send in the original and a copy can be made and return the original to you or have your child’s doctor’s office fax it to Center School Nurse at 978-256-4282 (Fax).
Thank you,
Kathy Rossman BSN RN

Standards baseD report cARDS
With the first term report card and parent-teacher conferences approaching for students in grades 1-4, we wanted to provide you with some information for Standards Based Report Cards, as this year may be the first time some parents are seeing this type of report card. For our kindergarten families, although you will not receive your child’s first report card until January, we felt it important to begin to share this information with you.
A Standards Based Report Card provides important information to help parents and guardians better understand their child’s progress in school towards meeting the expected end of year standards. These report cards list the standards and report the performance the student exhibits. There are four performance levels that teachers use in order to provide parents with feedback on progress on the standards. Classroom teachers are using multiple measures to assess your child’s performance. By the end of each year, parents should clearly see the progress the student is making in school.
For additional information, please visit out Standards-Based Report Cards page at http://www.chelmsford.k12.ma.us/Page/1299. This webpage includes all information about Standards-Based Report Cards, including sample report cards for all levels
Report cards are available on the Aspen X2 parent portal and will continue to be reported on Aspen X2 in in future terms in an electronic format only. We encourage you to go onto X2 and retrieve your child’s report card electronically each term.
Please do not hesitate to reach out, should you have any questions.

Snow Day Notification - a message from Dr. Lang
If school is delayed or canceled this winter, a message will be communicated consistently with past practice as follows:
- An e-mail and telephone message will be sent to the primary contact number of each student and staff member in the district. This is a great time to verify your primary contact number in X2, our student/staff database, at which you desire to be contacted is accurate. If no message is received, school is being conducted as usual that day;
- A message will be displayed on the Chelmsford Public Schools webpage notifying the public of the status of school for the day. If no message is displayed, school is being conducted as usual that day;
- A message will be displayed on local television channels 4, 5, 7, and 25. If no message is displayed, school is being conducted as usual that day.
To allow parents and staff a little extra time to plan and prepare for a school closure, whenever possible, I attempt to make an announcement the night before when it is evident from the forecast that school will be impacted. This is not always possible and many times I need to wait until the early morning hours to make a decision for the district. Under these circumstances, I will endeavor to make and announce a decision by 5:30 a.m. on the day school will be impacted.
