Principal's Message
Wildcats and Families,
In a few weeks, we will welcome over 1000 students to the start of the 2020-2021 academic school year. We look forward to connecting with our new and returning Wildcats, be that in person or remotely.
We use several different avenues to celebrate our student successes and provide important information about activities and events; the USD232/DHS website, Skyward emails – including our weekly newsletter (The Growl), Twitter (@DeSotoWildcats), dhswildcatnation.com, and our new Facebook page (De Soto High School). We will also send important time-sensitive information via the district text message service.
The district is providing two different learning models this school year: Onsite, and Optional Remote. Information about the models can be found on the district website, or in the DHS specific flyer below. We are asking all families to make a learning model selection for their students via Skyward Family Access, even if you have previously completed the enrollment process. The window is currently open and the deadline is August 11th.
For families new to the district or those needing assistance with enrollment or the learning model selection process, please call us at 913-667-6250. We may be able to assist you over the phone or schedule an in-person appointment. Our office hours (by appointment only) are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
For this school year only, students in the Class of 2021 are being allowed to shorten their schedules. Specific qualifications can be reviewed on the application. There is no guarantee a request for a shortened day will occur. The deadline to apply is August 11th, at 11:59 pm.
On August 17th, 18th, & 19th, we have organized “School Year Prep”, a time for DHS students to complete some important items necessary for a successful return to school in September. This includes school pictures and ID cards (activity passes are printed on the ID cards if fees were paid when enrolled online), 2019-2020 yearbook pickup, athletic physical and immunization paperwork submission, and parking passes. ONLY DHS students and staff are allowed in the building and they MUST be wearing masks and follow social distance guidelines.
- Monday, August 17th - 9:00 am-11:00 am and 12:00pm-4:00 pm
- Tuesday, August 18th - 4:00 pm-7:00 pm
- Wednesday, August 19th - 9:00 am-11:00 am and 12:00 pm-4:00 pm
More information will be sent out next week concerning School Year Prep, Wildcat Kick-off (our freshman half day), and the first few days of the school year.
Kind Regards,
Sam Ruff
