COVID-19 Closure Extension
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, which I know dates me, I feel compelled to continue to extend my sincere thanks for your patience, understanding and support as we officially launched distance learning today in District 15. Reinventing how we educate students during this crisis has been an incredibly difficult, yet a professionally exhilarating task, that has highlighted the many ways in which District 15 is truly a family. I have seen an outpouring of positive messages from our families, our staff -- regardless of their role within our District -- going the extra mile for students, and a community that is pitching in in ways large and small, during this trying time. It has reinforced why I am so proud to lead this wonderful District.
This afternoon, Governor Pritzker announced an extension in statewide school closures through Thursday, April 30, 2020. I know this is disappointing news, but likely not surprising as COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Illinois and across our country. Please know we are committed to support our students through distance learning and meal deliveries for the duration of the school closure.
As I have shared in previous communications, if you have a question about distance learning, your first point of contact should be your child’s teacher. As educators, they are best able to support your child’s educational needs and help you find answers to any questions you may have. I ask that you practice grace and understanding with staff and really take to heart the fact that this is a new endeavor for everyone. Our charge remains to provide as much continuity of instruction for students as we can.
Again, thank you for your partnership as “honorary educators” during this incredibly difficult time.
