Thank you for all your help with this matter.

November Newsletter from the Career Center

SENIORS:

Capital had a very successful month of students applying for college. During October we had just over 80% of our students apply to colleges in and out of Idaho (with 1037 applications completed!!!). We are still catching up with our students who were absent or don’t have an American Government class; so, we expect to be at 90% + by the end of November.

Congratulations to all the students who have completed their applications!!

Remember that as students are completing their other applications, they need to be requesting transcripts on Scoir.

Seniors are strongly encouraged to be looking at their personal email account to make sure they are catching any correspondences from their colleges to which they applied!!! This will be especially important when it comes to the financial aid piece of the process!

I’m getting a very good sense that FAFSA are being completed, as well. Many families have come in during the FAFSA Completion Nights I have been offering, including Parent-Teacher conference time and I have had many students claiming their Dutch Bros card when they show me they have submitted their FAFSA.

It’s not too late to complete the FAFSA and I will be offering more evening time to help any families that would like the assistance.

My schedule for November is:

Nov. 5: 3:30-5:00

Nov. 12: 3:30-6:30

Nov. 19: 3:30-6:30

If there is a demand for more evening sessions, I will make sure to add a few in December and January.

It’s very important to be watching deadlines for colleges…especially the PRIORITY deadlines. (PRIORITY means scholarship deadlines!!)

Remember to continue looking at the list of Scholarships on the Google Document I have sent out. Many opportunities are available!!

JUNIORS:

Junior have completed a session in the Career Center through their English classes. We talked about how to find the “right fit” college and completed several activities to help them begin thinking about what is important to them in looking for a college.

Scoir was introduced to the students. Scoir.com is our website to help student keep track of college research, college applications, college visits, etc. During the visit, students complete a “College Search” and began to create a list of colleges to look at and perhaps apply to next year.

Junior parents are encouraged to get a Scoir account, also!!! Please email Mrs. Cupps and let her know you would like a Scoir account and she will send you a link. Parents can also ask their junior to send them a link via their own account. This parent portal is unique in that it allows you to input financial information and then gives families a good “guesstimate” of how much each of the colleges your junior is looking at might cost.

SOPHOMORES:

I will be introducing the Career Center to Sophomores in November and December, talking with them about this resource but also how important education can be beyond high school.

I will be introducing Sophomores to Scoir second semester. At that time I will encourage parents to request an account!

FOR EVERYONE:

The ASVAB will be given here at Capital on November 7. This is the military entrance exam for those wishing to enlist. The exam is free and there is no obligation to join the military by taking the exam. However, recruiters will be calling!

Students interested in taking the ASVAB can come to the Career Center to sign up.

AVANZA! Will be happening on Nov. 6, from 6-9 p.m. Sponsored by the University of Idaho, it’s an opportunity for Seniors and their families to learn more about UI, complete an application and FAFSA if they have not been completed. This is a multicultural event and Spanish-speakers will be available.

Dinner will be served and students attending will have the opportunity to win a Scholarship!!!

You are encouraged to sign up at uidaho.edu/avanza-moveforward but it is not necessary to sign up.
