The Cub Corner
Expect Excellence In Everything
A Note from Mr. Bender
Welcome Back Cubs!
We are excited to start the 2020-2021 school year! While the start of the year may look different, our commitment to providing your child with the very best education remains unchanged. Our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly over the last few weeks to prepare for digital learning. Despite the technology challenges we encountered the first day, our teachers have done an excellent job of welcoming their students and beginning to build relationships. As we continue to navigate this unusual school year together, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Our teachers and staff are ready to support you with any challenges you are facing.
While this start of this school year will be unlike any we have ever encountered before, I am confident that this will be a great year!
Enjoy your weekend, and we'll see you on Zoom on Monday!

Character Trait of the Month
Welcome back to the 2020-2021 school year. Though the beginning of the year looks different, our goals are the same. We want to teach your children the AKS, give them opportunities for social interaction, show them love, and teach them all about character development. Each month, we will focus on a character trait. The character trait for the month of August is Respect. We define respect as treating others how we want to be treated. We can also do this by showing good manners and following the rules. Each month, your child’s teacher will be able to recognize students in their classroom for showing Respect. They will also choose a Cub of the Month that has exhibited that character trait.
Our summer reading celebration will be held in September! All students that logged 480 minutes of reading in the Gwinnett County Public Library Beanstack program will be recognized and rewarded! We are proud of your efforts to meet your summer reading goals! Keep reading!

We are excited to announce that WMES has been designated as a “No Place for Hate School”! No Place for Hate helps schools foster a culture of respect and create a safe, bully-free learning environment for all students. During the 2019-20 school year, we completed activities as a school to work toward building a brave and equitable school. This year, all students and staff signed the No Place for Hate pledge on a banner outside of our cafeteria. We also completed three activities to encourage kindness, respect, and inclusion in our building: the addition of the Buddy Bench to our playground, Kindness Week in November, and “Mix it Up” day in February. Thank you to student council who served as our student group in planning activities for this initiative!
