Finishing Strong
Next week, we will be continuing our informational pieces, wrapping up book clubs, and beginning our whole group novel study. I am excited for this meaningful work, and will continue to push and challenge students through June 3rd. I want students to avoid the temptation to slow down because the end is in sight, and hope you can reaffirm at home.
Let's make this an "epic finish" to 4th grade!
Try This At Home ...
Also, go visit Connor Prairie's Civil War Days this weekend! What a great way to transfer their in-class knowledge at this event. http://www.connerprairie.org/Things-To-Do/Events/2015/Family-Events/Civil-War-Days
Next Week's Set List (Week of May 18-22)
Week at a Glance/Skills for the Week:
LITERACY – We will finish book clubs with novels about the Civil War. We have also started our final novel study with The Phantom Tollbooth. Please consider purchasing a book for your child to use throughout this novel study. It is always a fan-favorite! The novel study will conclude with a viewing of the movie.
WRITING – We are finishing our informational pieces about the Civil War. Students are learning how to take research and factual information and make it come alive through the use of descriptive language and scenes. Students have writing homework all this week - they need to write continuously for 15 minutes every night!
MATH – We begin Unit 12 which focuses on ratios, probabilities, and number sense.
SPELLING – No spelling
SCIENCE – No Science this week.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We finished our unit on the Civil War, and will spend the remainder of the year exploring Indiana Today. What makes Indiana unique? How are traditions created? What impact do the people have on Indiana? How has our state adapted over time?
TIPS – We will make generalizations and draw conclusions from an infographic about spring allergies, and then the remainder of the week will focus on preparing a tribute to our soldiers for Memorial Day.
