What We Are Learning This Month
Writing Workshop
Reading Workshop
Our Kindergarten classes are continuing to work on launching our reading workshop. Learning about good readers’ habits and routines. We know that good readers have many ways to read and think about books before we are even reading all the words in them. During this month we will also work on story elements: identifying characters, setting and major events.
During Word Study we are working with letter recognition, sounds, and writing upper and lower case letters. We are also working on the following high frequency words: I, me, am, the, at, go, to, like, we, can, my, is, and, he, look, see, come, get, up, mom, dad.
Math
The kindergarten students are continuing the important work of daily routines. They have developed counting skills, and familiarity with the numbers 0-5 and how to represent count and compare numbers.
Social Studies & Science
In Social Studies our focus is School and the School Community. We will be introducing students to the concept of what it means to be a good citizen within a school community. We will do this by talking about rules, jobs, and responsibilities and why they are important.
Our unit of study for Science this month is “Trees throughout the Seasons”. We will be exploring and observing evidence of Autumn/Fall changes and transition in to the properties and needs of living things, animals versus plants.
