Inglewood Primary School
NEWSLETTER No 03 - 21 February 2019
Our Mission:
Learning to think, to do, to be
Ako ki te whakaaro, ako ki te mahi, ako kia ora ai te mauri
Our Vision: To provide a teaching and learning environment where of those involved: demonstrate respect, expect the best, achieve through opportunity, communicate actively & feel good and safe
Another busy week for all of us at IPS this week. Harold the Giraffe, and Megan of the Life Education Trust are at school, talking with students about Making good decisions and how our actions affect others. As part of the Life Education Trust, yesterday we hosted John Parsons, New Zealand's leading authority on cyber safety. John spoke to over 150 intermediate students from our community on the subject of cyber safety for individuals. He provided many messages to the students- all thought provoking and meaningful. We would love parents to take the time to discuss with your Intermediate aged child some of those key messages.
Over the next week or so many students will be interviewed for leadership roles within the school. This is a great responsibility and we wish them all well as they prepare for this opportunity. Our REACH reps, School Council, House Leaders, Sports Leaders, Playground leaders and Enviro team each play a fantastic role within our school. As with all things, not everyone can be selected, but showing resilience and learning from the opportunities are important lessons for us all.
Last night we had the Inglewood part of 'Americarna' and our famous cake stall. We'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed baked goods for this event, but also a special thanks to the small, dedicated and hardworking Parent Link group who prepared the stand, manned the stall selling the goods and packed up at the end. This group provide a lot for the school and we know they would love to see many more parents support this fantastic group of IPS parents.
Upcoming Teacher Only Day
On Friday March 8, our staff will be involved in Professional Development with all other staff from our Kahui Ako Community of Learning schools. This is an opportunity for staff to collaborate with other teachers and build on our understanding and implementation of the new Digital Technology curriculum and Cultural Proactiveness learning. We value this opportunity and appreciate your continued support as parents around this yearly Professional Development day.

Americana 2019
We are having our Annual Bake Sale for Americana next Thursday 21 February. Please bring all home made goodies to the office on Thursday morning. This year we have a few special requests. Due to the heat and humidity, we are experiencing this year, we request that all cakes/cookies/cupcakes are delivered un-iced. We also ask that you do not bring store brought items as these cannot be resold. We understand that time is a precious commodity, so if time doesn’t allow for baking perhaps you can help out during another fundraiser. If you are able to help out with the stall between 4pm and 8pm, please see the school office. Thank you! We appreciate all your support and help.
Have you thought about becoming a board member for your school?
We are holding a community hui at Inglewood High School, in the Library on Tuesday 26 March 2019 at 7pm in the lead up to this year's board of trustees' elections.
At the hui you'll hear about:
- What is a school board of trustees
- What do trustees do
- What skills do trustees need
- Who can become a trustee
- Who is on a board of trustees
- How is a board elected
- What help do school trustees get
- How does the board of trustees work.
