PVES iPad Check-Out Nights

For the parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who previously asked to borrow an iPad from Park Village, visit the school library to check out your student’s iPad on the scheduled day and time next week:

  • 3rd Grade Checkouts: Tuesday, October 8, from 1:40 to 4:30 pm
  • 4th Grade Checkouts: Wednesday, October 9, from 3:20 to 6:30 pm
  • 5th Grade Checkouts: Thursday, October 10, from 3:20 to 6:30 pm

If you have more than one child who is borrowing an iPad, you only need to visit once. Please remind us that you need more than one device when we see you. If you have questions, or if you have decided not to borrow a school-owned device, please contact Shelley Fleming at sfleming@powayusd.com. Thank you!

Meet the Masters Art Program

Meet the Masters (MTM) is Park Village’s Art Curriculum that is funded by the Park Village Foundation. Next week the students will be learning about our first artist, Paul Klee (1879-1940), a Swiss born painter and graphic artist of German nationality. Klee had great talent as a musician, and his interest in music is often reflected in his art. His small-scale paintings incorporated several modernist movements including Surrealism, Cubism and Expressionism. The following week, students will create an abstract composition with line, texture and color using tempura paint. Thank you to our parent volunteers who will provide step-by-step instructions to our students for hour-long the art lesson.

Recycling Collection

Wednesday, October 9, 8-9 AM, ESS Lot

The second Wednesday of every month is Recycling Collection. We are collecting California Redemption Value (CRV) plastic and glass bottles, aluminum cans, and household batteries. The money raised by the CRV items goes directly to the school. Separate the items by type and crush them if possible - it really helps out. Again this year we will give out awards for the top student in each grade, and overall top collector. The class that brings in the most will win an ice cream party, so tally up the total number of CRV items, jot it down on a slip of scratch paper along with your child's name and teacher's name, and bring it along with the recyclables. Note that we do not have time to count your items at the drop off, and please avoid taping the slip to the bag as it gets torn, lost or buried. We're always looking for volunteers to come help sort and crush that morning, so come on down and lend a hand. If you have any questions email pvesdads1@gmail.com

Parent Info Night: PV Update

Join Principal Mosgrove on Thursday, October 17 at 6 pm in the MPR to find out what's happening at PV. He will discuss district initiatives and work being done at school, followed by a Q&A session.

PTA Reflections Program 2019

by Jennifer Myers, Reflections Chair

Become a Famous Artist at PV! The Reflections artist's showcase will Friday evening, October 18th in conjunction with Movie Night, located in the covered area of the K Building. This year’s Reflections theme—“Look Within”— has many possibilities. Ask your child to think about the theme and talk about what it means to them. I've been to many classrooms in the last couple of weeks, so you may have heard more about this program from your child.

Let your child get creative and have fun! They can create a piece of artwork or short film, take a photo, choreograph a dance, and/or write a song or story that captures the theme in their own unique way!

If your child wants to submit an entry, click here for the rules and entry form. Completed Reflections entries will be due October 16th, 8:40-9:00 am in the lunch area before school begins. If you are not able to drop off an artwork at this time, please email to make alternate arrangements. Judging needs to take place prior to movie night, so Wednesday is a firm deadline. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Myers at info@artskiddoo.com.

Coordinator NEEDED FOR Fun Run on November 8

It has been an annual tradition for PV students to participate in the Invitational Cross Country Meet sponsored by the San Diego North Rotary Club. Oranges and water are provided to all runners. There is NO COST to participate. The run takes place on Friday, November 8 and some students may need to be checked out early from school (heats begin at 3 pm). Please contact Allison at amcclay@gmail.com if you are interested in coordinating PV's presence at this event!

D.A.D.S. Group Update

The D.A.D.S. Group has been hard at work recently (rain or shine), repainting handball walls and completing preparations for our Outdoor Classroom/Learning Garden.

Volunteers are needed for the October events below. If you’re new to the school or have been meaning to come out, the Oct 11 meeting is a great opportunity to meet fellow PVES DADS, see what’s planned for the year, and maybe eat the best jalapeño poppers you’ve ever had. Contact D.A.D.S. President Victor Chan at pvesdads1@gmail.com with any questions.

  • Oct 5, 5:30 - 7:00 PM: Outdoor Garden work by ESS building
  • Oct 6, 5:30 - 6:30 PM: Sort and crush recyclables outside the ESS building. Bring the kids!
  • Oct 9, 8-9 AM: Recycling collection at ESS
  • Oct 11, 7-9 PM: DADS meeting at Geoff's new place
  • Oct 18, 4-9 PM MOVIE NIGHT - We’ll need lots of volunteers for this marquee DADS event.
  • Oct 25, lunchtime: Picnic With Penguins. 4 dads needed to host the sign-in sheets in 30-min intervals
  • Oct 26, 9 AM-12 PM: Bike Safety and Canyon Ride

Parking Lot Reminder

Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!

Box Tops for Education

Do you have the All-New Box Tops App? It's the new way to earn! Use the app to scan your receipts & earn cash for Park Village. Visit https://www.boxtops4education.com for more information.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020

Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!

  • Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
  • Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
  • Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
  • Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.

Playground Partners

Every Monday and Wednesday, two coaches from Rancho Family YMCA come to Park Village during lunch to lead organized activities and ensure that all students have an opportunity to play fairly. The coaches are working to prevent bullying, build teamwork, and lead a fun brain break! Ask your student if they participated in Playground Partners this week.
