February 2019
It is hard to believe that we are over a month into the second half of the school year! The first 4 weeks went off without a hitch and our students are continuing to grow each and every day. The next mindset focus for our Wildcats through 7 Mindsets is "Live to Give." Live to Give mindset teaches that abundance in one's life is a cycle. To receive love, respect, and financial security, one must first learn to give those things. With February, there are many upcoming events in which you can be engaged. These events include, but are not limited to, Spring Pictures, Father/Daughter Dance, Family Fitness Night, Parent Conferences (March) and many more.
This month in particular, we will take a closer look at many of the famous African Americans that helped to further shape this great country in which we live. Our Wonderful Media Specialist has planned and organized a myriad of events to allow us a deeper dive into the lives of many African Americans as we celebrate Black History Month at McAllister ES. One of the highlights is a living history walk that links students/staff/community members to these famous people through QR links which provide in depth information. The resources linked are some of the very information shared at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Please come in and take a look, you will not be disappointed! Keep scrolling for a sneak peak!
MES Wildcats are already looking ahead to another amazing school year. The upcoming 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 calendars were approved at the most recent Bryan County Schools BOE Meeting. Take a moment to look over the calendars and make plans for another amazing school year. I encourage you to continue to read with your child daily, ask questions about what he or she is learning at school and involve yourself in family engagement and volunteer opportunities as you are available. We continually seek to provide the best possible opportunities for engagement and welcome your voice/feedback. The Book Swap is for you!
How it works:
From Monday, February 4th to Friday, February 15th, students may bring in “gently used” books to their teacher for donation. Students will receive a swap ticket for each book donated. The maximum number of books a student may swap is 3. If you have additional books you wish to donate, we will accept those on behalf of those students who may not have a book to swap and thank you in advance.
From Wednesday, February 20th to Friday, February 22nd, students will use their “swap tickets” for a book of their choosing.
Book Criteria
Please make choices carefully before bringing in books. Books will only be accepted
under the following guidelines:
- Books must be appropriate for grades PreK-5
- Books must be in gently used condition: cover on, no rips, tears
- Books with coloring or writing in them will not be accepted
- Coloring books, activity books, and sticker books will not be accepted
- Books from kids’ meals will not be accepted (chick-fil-a, McDonalds, etc.)
Please note that the selection of books available will be based on the books donated.

What are the 7 Mindsets?
Our current mindset we are focusing on is -"Live to Give"
1. Everything is Possible -
Dream big, embrace creativity and expect results
Everything is Possible provides an understanding that we are all capable of living extraordinary lives. We learn that everything that exists was once an idea until someone believed it was possible and made it a reality. Embracing this principle will allow you to envision a wonderful life, expect greatness, and effectively execute the process of making your dreams come true.
2. Passion First
Pursue your authentic talents and deepest interests
Passion First teaches that we are each a unique expression of human existence and that our lives should be focused on finding our unique genius and sharing it with the world to the maximum extent possible. You will learn to make your dreams authentic, and of such critical importance that you'll find the fuel to overcome the obstacles you're certain to face along the way.
3. We Are Connected
Explore the synergies in all relationships and learn to empower one another
We Are Connected teaches us to understand that everyone who comes into our lives can assist us in living our dreams. By applying this mindset, you will learn to constantly explore synergies with others, embrace diversity, and relish competition that will help you maximize your potential with and through others.
4. 100% Accountable
Choose to be responsible for your own happiness and success
100% Accountable teaches that you are not a victim of your past, your future is not predetermined, and your life is what you choose it to be from this moment forward. With a focus on recognizing fears and excuses, this mindset allows you to break down barriers, free your mind, and focus your energy to take critical steps toward accomplishing your goals.
5. Attitude of Gratitude
Seek positives from every experience and be thankful for all you have
An attitude of Gratitude teaches that you can choose the positives or the negatives in your life as the foundation on which to build your future. Choose the positives, and you're on your way toward extraordinary success; choose the negatives, and you will likely start (or continue) a downward spiral.
6. Live to Give - Current Mindset of Focus (See Parent Newsletter Below)
Inspire and serve others while maximizing your potential
Live to Give teaches that abundance in one’s life is a cycle. To receive love, respect, and financial security, one must first learn to give those things. This mindset also teaches that the greatest gift you can ever give is to find and leverage your unique genius to maximize your positive impact on the world, knowing that good things will be returned to you in kind.
7. The Time is Now
Harness the power of this moment, and take purposeful action today
The Time is Now teaches that all your power exists in the moment. You cannot change the past and the future hasn't happened, so the only thing to do is take purposeful action now in order to create the ultimate life of your dreams.
