TE REO FOCUS FOR THE WEEK
KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have had a great week at Vogeltown, regardless of the weather (which has been horrible!). The Vogeltown learners continue to surprise us with their resilience, adaptability and awesome learning.
This week we did a 'soft opening' of the new deck at the senior school. It is amazing how much of an outdoor extension this gives to our rooms. It is going to be so good to have this breakout space for our learners to work in. We are still waiting for an extra handrail and some 'flashing' before we can fully open up the deck area. We will be having an 'official opening' - we will let you know when this is.
We will soon begin work on the Junior side. This is going to be the biggest change in this space since the 1990's! I will add some images in next weeks newsletter - it is going to be awesome, fully functional and modernised!
Next week we celebrate our 'Support Staff' as part of the National Support Staff week. Even though we celebrate our awesome staff all the time, it will be great to have a special morning tea for these guys - we really could not do what we do here at Vogeltown without them!
Next week we also celebrate 'Be seen day - Tiaho Mai'. This is a dress up day - we encourage our learners to dress up in the brightest clothes (neons, fluros) that they can! We will give some prizes out to be the best dressed (in syndicates) and get that special whole school picture. This day is organised by the 'Lets Go' team at the Council. Watch out for our 'Caught being good' day coming up this term too - this day is kept secret, but watch out for a tall Pukeko in the coming weeks!
Have a great weekend whanau - enjoy the extra day to be with your family. We will see you all back here on Tuesday.
Aroha nui, Mr O

SCHOOL SWEATSHIRTS
If you are after a school sweatshirt, then venture over to the Game Changer website to order. The orders will close on Sunday 12 June.
We are lucky to have such an awesome shop and business in our local community to make and deliver such meke sweatshirts - supporting local, in Vogeltown!
VOGELTOWN ADVENTURE 2022
It was a bit sad that we had to postpone our Vogeltown Adventure today - but the right call was made. We are looking for the next couple of fine days, and then we will go - this may mean we only give everyone a day's notice.
Below is the information about the hikoi. The focus is around:
1) The history of our carvings and the relationship to our school’s place based curriculum.
2) The names and people who lived in our local area - they are also part of our local curriculum - Urukinaki, Kahutaiaroa and Tuparikino
3) The places that part of our local curriculum and area - Parihamore Pa, Puketarata Pa, Te Henui river, East End Beach, Fitzroy Beach, Te Rewa Rewa bridge.
Below is the proposed timetable for this day.
Rm 13's Te Henui reports - why is it called the Te Henui?
COVID-19 UPDATE AT VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - WEEK 5, TERM 2
We continue to see a few flu's and a couple of tummy bugs creep in this week. However, luckily Covid is not making the big resurgence we had expected.
This week we are sitting at an average of 89% attendance at Vogeltown. We are increasing our attendance slowly each week - this is awesome!
We are still seeing some cases of covid crop up - it is just a reminder that we are still in a pandemic and we must continue to keep being vigilant with hand washing and keeping safe.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION - TERM 1 'SATISFACTION SURVEY'
A big thanks to the 95 whanau who gave us some feedback last term around the teaching and learning satisfaction at Vogeltown School.
Last week we shared, visually, the feedback in graph form. Today we would like to share some the awesome comments we received from 2 questions in this survey.
We are very proud of Vogeltown School and we continue to achieve and be a high performing school - the feedback we received tells us we continue to do an awesome job!
VOGELTOWN LEARNERS CORNER
Young Leaders conference 2022
Awesome writing from Rm 12
Theme of 'Patterns, Process and Phenomena' in the Huatoki team
There has been a great inquiry around the topic of Antarctica in the Huatoki team!
The highlight today was how cold is ice? How long can we hold it? What states of matter does water change too and how does 'blubber' on animals help to keep them warm!?
It was great to see the facial expressions! Check out the photos from Rm 15 below.

MR O'S FRIENDLY REMINDERS
1) Please remember to contact the school office if your child is absent. You can do this via Skool Loop, text 021 753 680 or ph 06 753 6843. Please do not use SeeSaw for student absences - these must come through the office.
2) Please be courteous before and after school with parking around the school sites. We have lots of kids and not enough parks, so please allow time to get to school and be patient around the streets.
Thanks whanau
Stay safe and be kind to each other. Thank you for the ongoing support of Vogeltown School, we appreciate the community we live in.
On behalf of the Vogeltown team,
