Diseases
Smallpox was eradicated worldwide in 1980, and vaccines have been developed for diseases like mumps, measles, plague, tuberculosis, and many others.
Why Parents Aren't Giving Their Kids Vaccines
- Some parents believe vaccines may cause autism
- Some parents believe their child's immune system can't handle the vaccines
- Some vaccines may cause adverse reaction, like seizure, brain damage, or death
Doctors and Scientists Agree Vaccines Are Harmless
- Doctors and Scientists have proven that vaccines have no link to autism
- The best way to vaccinate is by the recommended schedule
- If most of the people in a herd vaccinate (about 95%), everyone in the will be immune
Vaccines Help Prevent Diseases
- In 1952, there were 57,879 cases of paralytic polio in the U.S., and in 1961, 6 years after the vaccination was introduced, there were 1,312, a 98% reduction
- In the '50's, there were 3 to 4 million cases of measles in the U.S., and in 2012, there were just 5 cases
- Nearly 90% of people in the 2015 outbreak were not vaccinated
