Paws for PRIDE
We have no winners to celebrate due to our short week last week. However, don't worry; we will be back next week with some of the best looking mugs on the Southside!
Students, classes, and teachers are chosen at random to be recognized and celebrated for demonstrating one of our five character traits - Pride, Respect, Individual Responsibility, Determination & Empathy. Thank you to all of the Titus families for your support of our Paws for PRIDE program.
Random Acts of Kindness Week
Titus will be celebrating Random Acts of Kindness week next week (February 19th - 22nd) with a variety of activities. To begin with, each day we will have a special Spirit Day:
- Tuesday – Kindness in Action – wear sneakers to school
- Wednesday – Be Kind to your School – wear Titus gear and/or black and gold to show school spirit
- Thursday - #teamkindness – wear a shirt that has your favorite team/activity (can be a team the child is on or follows)
- Friday – Dreaming about Kindness – wear pajamas or comfy clothes
In addition, students will have the opportunity to purchase Kindness Candy Cards during their lunch time on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For 25 cents each, students get a note card to fill in that will be delivered on Friday to a student or teacher along with a piece of candy to show kindness. More than one card may be purchased by students.
There will be some other kindness-related activities throughout the week, such as a kindness video and quote of the day, Kindness Bingo, and an all-school assembly on Friday afternoon.
While we know that kindness should be part of every single day, by highlighting a whole week of kindness at Titus we will make the students aware of how kindness can impact the world around them! We want to make kindness the norm, and not the exception!
Titus Annual Book Swap
Just a reminder that our “Book Swap” is in full swing. Each child is encouraged to donate gently used books of their choice on their reading level to be replaced with newer titles at our annual Read Across Titus Day on Friday, March 1st . Donations will be accepted through the final week of February.
Thank you for your support with our book swap!
Save the Date
Please join me in the Titus library on Thursday, February 21st from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM for “Community Connections,” one of a series of parent meetings scheduled to take place in each of our schools.
These meetings are designed to encourage frank conversations about our shared vision for the future of our schools. I hope you can find time to attend; I look forward to hearing your feedback and ideas.
A video introduction can be seen on the website homepage at www.cbsd.org/communityconnections. I hope to see you on February 21st.

Science Fun Day Is Coming
We are in the planning stages of our 2019 Science Fun Day, and we need your help to make the day a success. Please join us on Tuesday, February 26th at 6:30 PM in the Titus Dining Room for an informational meeting regarding volunteer opportunities. If you are unable to come to our first meeting on the 26th, still register for the meeting, and we will get in touch with you. If you have any questions, please reach out to Kim Anderson.
Your help and support providing the Science Fun Day experience for our students is greatly appreciated!
Parent PD - News from the Nurse
Why are Whole Grains better for you than refined/ processed grains?
Whole grains have all of the parts of the original kernel-bran, germ, and the endosperm. In refined or processed grains (white), the bran and germ are stripped away losing both the nutritional value and much of the fiber in the grain. Whole grains are rich in fiber and B vitamins which play a key role in digestion. Whole wheat bread, pasta and noodles are not the only way to get a whole grain in your diet. There are many other ancient grains that you can introduce into your family’s diet. Some of these grains are buckwheat, quinoa, millet, barley, and brown rice. Experiment…get the kids involved in cooking the grains and adding veggies and seasonings!
