Cabinet Column - Positive School Culture

Fargo Public Schools (FPS) is committed to providing a positive and nurturing culture in all buildings. This is especially important, because positive school climates and cultures promote students' abilities to learn. Feature Column - Celebrating Indigenous Peoples' Day

The story of Christopher Columbus used to be a staple lesson plan for teachers during this time of year. However, that history lesson has been proven to have factual errors. Instead, we are encouraged to celebrate Indigenous Peoples' Day on October 12. In this feature column, Director of Equity and Inclusion Tamara Uselman tells us how we can challenge our traditional thoughts about Columbus Day and celebrate true history.


Instructional Levels Update

The COVID-19 Instructional Plan Committee updated the instructional levels for both elementary and secondary students. Level changes are as follows:

Effective October 19

  • Middle Schools: Level 3 – Hybrid Instruction

  • High Schools: Level 3 – Hybrid Instruction

Effective October 26

  • Elementary Schools: Level 4 – In-Person Instruction with Restrictions

Fargo Public Schools (FPS) is providing a weekly report of COVID-19 data within the district. This data, in consideration with other factors, continues to be utilized by the FPS COVID-19 Instructional Plan Committee. Information is updated every Friday and can be found on the FPS COVID-19 page.

Middle & High School Level 2 Distance Learning Meals

Middle and high school students are invited to receive take-home meals during Level 2 - Distance Learning. Students will receive two to three days' worth of food at each pickup. No meal order form is required for secondary students during Level 2 - Distance Learning. Either students or guardians may pick up meals.

Tuesdays & Fridays

11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m.

Middle and High School Meal Pickup Locations:

Davies High School

  • Football field concession stand, east parking lot Gate #2

Discovery Middle School

  • Football field concession stand, accessible on 18th St S, west side parking lot

North High School

  • Football field concession stand, accessible on 19th Ave N, west of building

South High School

  • Week of October 5: South side student parking lot on 17th Ave
  • Week of October 12: Football field concession stand, west of building on 15th Ave S

Middle and high school student meals may be picked up at any location, and anyone wishing to pick up meals for multiple students must provide names or other enrollment verification. Students requiring modified menus due to medical needs should call Kyla Zach at 701.446.1153.

Virtual Academy and elementary students who wish to receive meals on distance learning days are still required to fill out forms for Grab and Go Meals.

Quarantine Guidelines Update

On October 1, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum updated quarantine guidelines. The change no longer requires close contacts to quarantine if both parties were wearing masks during the time of exposure. This greatly impacts the number of people who will have to quarantine. Fargo Public Schools understands that distance learning and additional technology can sometimes be difficult to navigate. If students and parents need help, they can call the support line at 701.446.1450 or email Technology support is available Monday through Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Fridays from 7:15 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Peeters Named NDHSCA Girls Golf Coach of the Year

Congratulations to Fargo South Bruins Girls' Golf coach Sarah Peeters! She was named the North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) Subway State Coach of the Year for Class A Girls' Golf on Tuesday, October 6. Peeters has been coaching the Bruins golf for seven years.

South Auto Technology II Class Receives Partnership Award

Fix It Forward Ministry presented the South High School Automotive Technology II class with a partnership award. The class and its teacher helped fix nine cars during the 2019-2020 school year, which were then given to people in need. Life Changer of the Year Award Nominations Open

Do you know someone in your school who makes a positive difference in the lives of students? Please nominate them for the National Life Group Life Changer of the Year Award! EDC Boys' Tennis All Conference Players

Congratulations to Kareem Kamel of Davies High School and Jaron Dufault of North High School! They were selected as Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) Boys' Tennis All Conference Players. They were chosen through a voting process by EDC Boys' Tennis coaches.

School Out Days - October 22 & 23

There will be NO SCHOOL Thursday, October 22 and Friday, October 23 as staff attends the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders conference. School will resume as scheduled on Monday, October 26.

AD-Ventures: Seasonal Activities for Kids

AD-Ventures is a district publication intended to help families find activities for their children throughout the community. AD-Ventures for Kids is for youth grade levels K-5. AD-Ventures for Teens is for youth grade levels 6-8. These are published on the first of each month during the school year. Click the active links above for the October issue of each publication.

Watch Met Opera Performances for Free

Fargo Public Schools is giving students and teachers FREE access to watch virtual performances of the Metropolitan Opera (Met Opera) in New York City. Many performing arts teachers are incorporating these videos into curriculum, but they are available to view from home. If students are interested in accessing Met Opera on Demand, they can ask their performing arts teachers for login information.

While the vast majority of these operas have been vetted for television audiences on PBS, some may contain content incongruous with your personal values. Please exercise caution when allowing your child to stream opera productions unsupervised.

Behind the Scenes: Distance Learning Meals

Fargo Public Schools (FPS) is dedicated to providing students with nutritious meals whether they are learning in the classroom or at home. The video below shows the process Nutrition Services uses to make and distribute distance learning meals. Take home meals are available for all students on their distance learning days, as well as those in the Virtual Academy. FPS is also celebrating National School Lunch Week, which is October 12-16.

Families Treat Discovery Middle School Staff Members

With the help of many families, the Discovery Middle School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) treated every single staff member to thank you notes and cake. It was part of an event called "It's Been a Sweet September." The PTA organized the event to show gratitude for everyone's hard work adjusting to new guidelines and changes. In return, staff members shared pictures and wrote their own thank you notes. Read this article to see some of those pictures and comments.


Community Flu Shot Blitzes

Sanford Health is hosting several influenza vaccine events, including drive through blitzes. The events will take place on several Saturdays during the fall from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All ages are welcome, and appointments are necessary. Social distancing and masks are required.
