Tommy's Tiger Tales
Thomson Estates Elementary August 2021
Don't Forget: The 1st day of school is a Wednesday and that means a 2:00 dismissal!
Welcome Back to School!
If you have not already put these events on your calendar, please come visit us at:
- The Early Childhood (PK and K) Meet and Greets on Monday, August 30th (tomorrow) at two times: 9:30 a.m. (focusing on families new to the building) and at 1:30 p.m.
- Sneak-A-Peek back to school picnic for all families on Monday, August 30th from 3:00-4:00
ARRIVAL
All students should plan to be at the building by 8:45 a.m. daily.
- Walkers: Students should plan to enter the building by the Courtney Dr. entrance at 8:45 a.m.
- Boys & Girls Club Before Care: Students will be dismissed from the program to their homerooms at 8:45 a.m.
- Car Riders: All vehicles should enter the side driveway from Courtney Dr. as this road is for one way traffic. Please plan to arrive by 8:45 a.m. daily. This is a no passing zone and cones will be set up in the second lane to prevent movement. Students should arrive at school ready to exit the vehicle quickly. Parents of young children should quickly help their child out of the car and return to the vehicle so other students may arrive at school on time as well.
- Bus Riders: Please make sure that your child is at his or her designated stop 15 minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive and give the bus up to 15 minutes to arrive after the posted time in the morning. The first few days have the most delay. The buses should quickly fall into their routine. Please take a few minutes to review the Parents Guide to Bus Expectations procedures with your children before the first day of school. These procedures are put into place for the safety of all students on the bus.
DISMISSAL
Dismissal begins promptly at 2:00 on Wednesdays and at 3:30 every other day of the week.
- Walkers: will be dismissed first at 3:30 (2:00 on Wednesdays). Students are expected to check out with the staff member at the door daily. Children who are listed at walkers will be dismissed daily on-time. Please speak with your child about the importance of walking straight to their own home at the end of the day and not stopping at a friend's house to play.
- Boys & Girls Club Before & After Care: will be called to the cafeteria at the 3:25 (1:55 p.m. on Wednesdays) dismissal alert announcement so that after care personnel can take daily attendance. If you are in need of quality before and/or after care, this is a wonderful opportunity! Scholarships are available and Ms. Rachel Duncan from B&G can help families through this process.
- Car Riders: will begin dismissal at 3:30 (2:00 on Wednesdays). Car Rider loop goes until the last car in line is filled and then the doors are shut. Families arriving to the building after 3:30 may have to go to the front office to pick up their children and sign them out from school. Repeatedly being late to pick up your child from school will result in a referral to the Pupil Personnel Worker.
- Bus Riders: will be called beginning at 3:30, or when buses arrive on the property.
Routine arrival and dismissal locations is in the best interest of all students. On the rare and/or emergency occasion when your child's dismissal information needs to be adjusted for the day, you must send in a note addressed to the main office. An office staff member will call the student's parent or guardian on file to confirm the note. If the emergency occurs after the start of the day and a note cannot be sent in, the office will need to confirm the call by calling a parent, guardian, or emergency contact on file. This is the main reason why it is important to keep current contact information up to date with the main office. Notes cannot be accepted from stepparents. This process is in place for the safety of our children and to ensure that parents and/or guardians are aware of any potential changes to dismissal. Thank you for understanding that the intent of this process is to ensure that your child arrives safely at home each evening.
School Meals Benefits and Title 1 Status
We are happy to announce that we will be able to offer a free hot breakfast and lunch daily to ALL students for the 2021-2022 school year. Hungry children are not able to concentrate on their learning and this provides a wonderful opportunity for all students to be ready to learn on a daily basis. A computer station will be available at the Sneak-a-Peek event to help families with signing up for benefits. Completion of this form will also help our families keep their P-EBT benefits without disruption. If you have not already done so, please fill out this form. Links below will take you to the online form and a copy of the Spanish from. If you need assistance with filling out this form, please contact Ms. Lisa Gonzalez, our Community School Advisor and she can help you.
Keep a lookout in your email (on file) for more beginning of the year updates!
