A free, voluntary program available to anyone residing in the LSR7 school district with prenatal through kindergarten eligible children. We offer personal home visits, developmental screenings, group connections, and resources available within the community. Let us partner with you in this parenting journey. Enroll today!

As a program we use the surveys that parents complete to share with our local board of education as well as at the state level to demonstrate the impact that our program has on the families in Lee's Summit. Read Across America

March 2nd is Read Across America Day. This day was created in 1988 by the National Education Association (NEA) to help kids gets excited about reading. All throughout March, find ways to encourage reading! Play the book scavenger hunt as you read or visit Mid-Continent Public Library's Story Time (IN PERSON-details below). Happy reading!

Read To Me Initiative

Great Beginnings Early Education Center Library and Parents as Teachers are partnering to launch an initiative with the goal of providing a gift of a board book (Read to Me by Judi Moreillon) to each family under the umbrella of Great Beginnings services* to celebrate the birth or adoption of a new baby.

To let us know about a new baby 6 months and younger, submit the form using the link below or contact your parent educator/classroom teacher. Requests must be made before the baby is six months old.

**Parents as Teachers, Head Start, Early Head Start, and those enrolled in Great Beginnings preschool - both the Legacy location as well as satellite sites.

Kindergarten Kickoff (DISTRICT WIDE)

Thursday, March 10th, 4:30-6:30pm


Each school in the district will host a Kindergarten Kickoff on Thursday, March 10th from 4:30-6:30 p.m. This is an open house concept and an opportunity for you to visit your child's school. To find which school you will need to go to, please use the link:

Countdown to Kindergarten: Session 2

Tuesday, March 15th, 6:30-7:30pm

In session 2 of a 3 part series for our Countdown to Kindergarten, we will discuss how to use PowerSchool, school routines, and helping your child learn and practice useful self-help skills. Toilet Training Made Easy

Thursday, March 31st, 8pm

This is an online event.

Join us for a virtual event all about toilet training! If you are wondering:

  • How do I know if my child is ready?
  • Why won't they poop in the potty?!
  • How do I avoid potty power struggles?
  • Why is my child regressing after doing so well?
  • When will my child be night potty trained?

Sleepy Time Stories

Tuesday, April 5th, 7-8pm

This is an online event.

Join GBEEC's librarian, Kim Rues and parent educator, Vikki Iseman for TWO duplicate sessions (7:00-7:30 or 7:30-8:00) for a snuggly bedtime story. Wear your jammies, listen to a bedtime story, and get some tips for making reading part of your routine. Every participant will be entered to win a free book! Conscious Discipline: The Power of Choice
