Health Tip of the Week
Check out this article from collaborators at Frontiers for Young Minds! This article helps explain how food has such a big impact on our mindset, mood, and ability to function. Eating healthy is obviously good for the body, but the impacts to the brain are remarkable! Most of us don't even realize how our diets can change our entire way of being. The saying "you are what you eat" is true for our external selves, but more importantly our internal well-being on a physical and mental level. See the abstract below and click the link to learn more!
Health Meal, Happy Brain: How Diet Affects Brain Function
Abstract: Do you know that the foods you eat impact your health? Most importantly, what you eat can have negative effects on the most complex organ in your body: your brain! Amazingly, the food you eat affects neurons, which are the major cells of the brain. In the brain, an unhealthy diet that is rich in fats and sugars causes inflammation of neurons and inhibits the formation of new neurons. This can affect the way the brain works and contribute to brain disorders like depression. On the other hand, a diet that contains healthy nutrients, such as omega-3 fatty acids, is beneficial for brain health. Such a diet improves the formation of neurons and leads to improved thinking, attention, and memory. In sum, a healthy diet makes the brain happy, so we should all pay attention to what we eat.

Cafe Gwinnett is Hiring!
ThoughtExchange and GCPS
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has partnered with ThoughtExchange to gather feedback from students, families, staff, and community members. ThoughtExchange will allow participants to share their thoughts and ideas and/or indicate their level of satisfaction with specific educational programs and initiatives found in our schools and district.
How does it work?
- GCPS poses a broad question and invites people to respond.
- Participants share thoughts anonymously with others participating in the exchange.
- Using a 1-5 scale, participants rate their agreement with different thoughts.
- GCPS analyzes data from the exchange and uses this input for decision-making.
Data, insights, and feedback gathered through ThoughtExchange will help the district gain a better understanding of what students, families, staff, and community members think about key issues, initiatives, and topics.
For more on ThoughtExchange and how it works, watch this brief video.
