Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
We read some interesting articles this week on food production in the United States, including the idea of implementing a tax on junk food. We worked on identifying pros/cons in an article, determining the main idea, and using context clues to help with unfamiliar words. Next week, we are going to read two articles on Anime. Students will continue to work on using context clues to identify the meaning of unknown words. We will also focus on sequencing events in the order they happened and discuss why this is important to be able to identify as a reader. Ask your student about their Lexile jumps in April - they are doing great using Achieve 3000!
MATH - Mr. Kolb
Accelerated 7 students completed 4 different lessons in our Geometry topic this past week. We will have a CFA (quiz) early next week after a lesson on Circles. After that we will continue in Geometry with a focus on Circles and Cross Sections.
SOCIAL STUDIES - Mrs. Hess
This week we finished learning about the differences between the North and South in the 1850s. Next week, we will start Chapter 21, A Dividing Nation. This chapter focuses on issues and compromises that brought the nation together and pulled it apart. Some of the topics for next week include the Missouri Compromise, Compromise of 1850, Dred Scott Decision, and Election of 1860.
SCIENCE - Mrs. Arndt
Next week we will continue our Matter and Energy in Ecosystems unit. This week we discovered that producers make energy storage molecules in an ecosystem so next week we will investigate what can affect the amount of energy storage molecules being made. Students will also be introduced to our new “class pets”.
