Week 8 Term 2 SFDS Newsletter

St Francis de Sales - 22 June 2021

TRACY'S MESSAGE

Kia Ora Ano

What wild weather we are having!

We had an amazing week last week which ended with our whole school hui…we introduced our new values card system and presented values certificates and the Principal's Cup.

At our hui we also had a representative from St Vincent de Paul’s who spoke to all of our learners about their work in our community. They accepted from our SOUL group the very generous donations from our school community. Thank you so much for all of the very kind donations. Love and kindness are never wasted. Love and kindness blesses the one who receives as well as the giver.

Wandering around our classes on Friday afternoon it was exciting to see the exceptional learning programmes happening across our school. Ranginui were engaged in STEM learning – using design thinking through coding M-bots and creating mini design projects (non-digital) and in Tangaroa they were vigorously engaged in gross and fine motor development rotations.

A reminder that mid-year learner reports will be going home in week 9 on Friday 2 July – this is next week. These reports are the basis of our mid-year whanau, ākonga (learner) and kaiako (teacher) hui.

These will be held in the last week of term - Wednesday 7 July and Thursday 8 July between 3-6pm. If you have not yet booked a time you can do this by going to the following website

www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and entering the code zmwsp

Please note that on these days school finishes at 2:30pm.

Next Monday 28 June from 6:00-6:45pm all whanau are invited to come and listen to a presentation about 'Life online' and how you as whanau can support your tamariki to navigate this online space. This will be held in our whare pukupuku (library).

This event was cancelled last term…only those registered will have a seat so if you are intending to come please register by emailing office@sfds.school.nz. These registrations are open until Friday 25 July.

Have a wonderful week and stay warm.

DRS MESSAGE

A massive thanks to everyone who donated to Vinnies Wellington food bank as our way of acknowledging the Sacred Heart Feast day. Vinnies is named after St Vincent de Paul, a French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor. We were lucky enough to have Emma Coelho from St Vincent de Paul join us at our school hui on Friday to talk to us.

It’s been wonderful celebrating the students who have been displaying our school values (The Fruits of the Holy Spirit) at our new fortnightly school hui. Have a read of these posters students from Tui made about The Fruits -

“Kindness is a gift anyone can afford”.

UPCOMING EVENTS

We are currently in the process of planning a few events for Terms 3 & 4 (dates TBC)

· The PSL Annual Quiz Night

· Leading up to this we will also be holding an Olympic quiz day for the children at school!

· A craft market for the end of the year!

If you would like to be involved in the planning process and/or running of any of these events please come along to our next meeting or email us. Putting on these types of events requires quite a bit of work so if we have a good number of people helping, you will only have to manage one aspect of the event. We are always keen to have new people come along to our meetings with new ideas and who are wanting to help.

We understand that every family has a busy schedule so if you can’t commit to coming to each month’s meeting that’s okay. Helping out on one or two events each year will make a huge difference, plus your children will like seeing you getting involved! If you can help, email us at psl.sfds@gmail.com, or come along to our next meeting on Tuesday 10 August at 7.30pm in the school staff room.
