A Message from Principal Bame
Dear Laurel Park Families,
Happy last day of January! We are now entering the 2022-2023 school year planning phase. Some families have inquired about the track change request process. If you would like to request a track change for the 2022-2023 school year, please review the entire process and provide the information requested at this link by April 22, 2022.
All forms submitted by April 22nd will be given equal consideration. Completion of this form does not guarantee a track change will be granted. Track changes are limited by the availability of open seats, number of classes per grade level, staffing, and any year-round middle school siblings. Please keep in mind that there are class size laws that we must follow. The goal is always to keep the four tracks balanced to best meet the needs of all students.
Nominate Teachers for The Cary Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Teaching Award
We know it when we see it. It can be the teacher who spends extra time with the students who need it most, or the teacher who is creative enough to inspire a real love of learning in a student. Perhaps it’s a teacher who cares enough to be involved with their students beyond the classroom. Whatever their methods, certain teachers make a real impact on students and their learning abilities. The COVID-19 pandemic has only highlighted the great importance of the role that teacher's play in our society.
We would like to recognize one such teacher and we need your help. The Cary Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in supporting education in our community through numerous programs and activities. One of the most critical needs of Wake County schools is that of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers. With the Cary Chamber of Commerce's Honor a Teacher Program we hope to help our school system in meeting that challenge.
Building on the success of the Discovery Award first sponsored by the Ashworth family in 1991, followed by the Clara Knoll Award in 2000 by Barry and DJ Mitsch, the Cary Chamber has secured sponsors to develop a teaching awards program for all schools in the Cary Area.
We are asking our community to nominate teachers for this award. Included with your nomination, please describe why you feel this particular teacher deserves this award. Nominations must be submitted no later than Friday, February 25 at 5:00pm. These nominations will then be narrowed down to finalists that will be interviewed by a designated committee.
If you have any questions, please email Kelcey Ashworth, Vice President of Education & Member Business Services, at kashworth@carychamber.com.

Backpack Buddies Program
Hello Laurel Park Families,
We have been living through unprecedented hard times. As members of the Laurel Park family, we need to support each other. One of the ways we do this is by addressing food insecurity through our BackPack Buddies Program. The program provides store bought, shelf stable foods and drinks for your student’s breakfast, lunch and snacks over the weekend. Each Friday, we will send your student home with a food bag.
If you are interested in participating in the program, please read the permission form and sign below. If you have more than one student at Laurel Park, please list each student.
By signing this form, I agree to allow my child to participate in the BackPack Buddies Program. I understand that, for children with food allergies, backpack items may contain possible allergen-containing ingredients. Parents and guardians concerned with food allergies need to be aware of this risk. WCPSS will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to foods consumed. By signing this form, I agree to assume any and all risks associated with my child’s participation in the BackPack Buddies Program, including any adverse reaction my child may have to foods consumed.
Kind Regards,
LPE Student Services Team
Wake Up and READ Book Drive
For a 4th year, Laurel Park Library will be a drop-off site for book donations for the WAKE Up and READ Book Drive. WAKE Up and READ believes that literacy is a right and all children need access to a high-quality home library.
From January 29 – February 28, WAKE UP and READ will collect new and gently-used books for children ages birth-12. These books are shared at schools, community centers and child care facilities across Wake County. Last year the Laurel Park community collected over 1,200 books to support WAKE Up and READ. Let’s do our best to reach a goal of at least 1,500 books! A collection box is at Laurel Park next to the front doors of the school.
