FAQ - How do Paraprofessionals earn Flex Time for December 22?
What does a paraprofessional need to do to make this happen?
Paraprofessionals must work a total of 44 hours for one week of the semester.
How can I do that?
One example...You could work extra time during parent conference week...for example, you can work your regular 37.5 hour schedule plus 4 hours on Fall festival night and another 2 hours on Thursday's parent conference night.
What if the parent conference week doesn't work for me?
You could work 44 hours on another week of the semester. For example, if you have a 3 hour training session scheduled for one evening plus work an extra hour three days that week, you could also earn 44 hours in a week.
What if I have already worked a 44 hour week?
Then you have already earned your flex day! Talk with Mrs. Burkhalter to make sure she has you marked off the list.
How do I know if I've earned my flex day?
Please talk with Mrs. Burkhalter about your plans to earn the flex day by Friday, Sept. 29.
Clubs Update
The clubs committee met this week and finalized some important planning details. Here is the info you need...
- Friday, 9/22, you may have found a teacher club sign up sheet in your boxes. The sign up sheet has many options for you to choose from or you can add your own idea! Please return these to Mrs. Henry's box by Wednesday, Sept. 27.
- Once we have the club topics set, then student selection sheets will go home.
- Our first club day will be October 20. We will have 3 club days this fall.
- Paraprofessionals will assist with students in the club classrooms.
- club time is 2:30 - 3:00 pm.
Information from parent newsletter :
Based on feedback from our school community, we are excited to announce that enrichment clubs are coming to Shackelford! Here is a Q & A describing how clubs will work...
Q: What clubs will be offered?
A: In the fall, a predetermined list of clubs will go home for students to choose from. Examples include: Lego builder's club, yoga club, playdough fun club, dmax club, running club, and more!
Q: How do I sign my student up for a club?
A: When the sign up sheets come home on October 6, your student will indicate their top 3 choices. Clubs will fill on a first come, first served basis so return your form quickly! Forms will be due back by October 13 and students will be informed of their club on October 18.
Q: What if my child doesn't get the club he or she requested?
A: Students will select three choices for Tribe Time clubs each nine weeks. Clubs will fill on a first come, first served basis, so get your selection sheet in early! Students will have two additional selections for clubs in the spring semester, one during the 3rd nine weeks, and another during the 4th nine weeks. Students will attend the same club for a 9 week period.
Q: When do students go to clubs?
A: We will have three Tribe Time dates in the fall: October 20, November 3, and December 15. Club time is 2:30 - 3:00 on the designated day. Students will transition back to their original classroom prior to dismissal. In the spring semester, students will be able to choose a new club each 9 weeks and will attend Tribe Time twice per month.
Q: This sounds like fun! How can I help?
A: You are welcome to volunteer to help out during club time! Please make sure that your PIE form is complete and turned in. Then let Mrs. Burkhalter know which club you would like to help with!
Q: What if I have an idea for a club? What if I have more questions?
A: Please contact Mrs. Burkhalter at tburkhalter@wisd.org or 972-923-4666.
Fall Festival Update
We are excited to offer a Fall Festival this year that will coincide with parent conference week and early voting!
- Our Fall Festival will be on Tuesday, October 24 from 5:00 - 7:00.
- Tabitha Russell will be sending out a sign-up sheet so all teams can sign up for booths. Your booth can be a carnival style game or other activity for students to earn candy prizes.
- The games at the festival will be free for families.
- Much of our candy and prizes are being donated by Mission 75165. Donations of candy or prizes from parents are also accepted.
- We plan to have concessions available.
- Since Early Voting is also happening in the gym, we will plan to have all booths outside lining the driveways, weather permitting. In the case of bad weather, we will use the cafeteria and classrooms.
- Parent conferences may still happen during the fall festival! Teams can cover for each other, ask for parent or ambassador volunteers to cover booths while teachers conduct conferences.
