PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Kia ora koutou,

Over the last few weeks we have been asking for you to let us know about 2023 enrolments, particularly at the new entrant level. We now have a very comprehensive list of new entrants starting next year. This not only helps us with planning classes for 2023 but also helps us determine how many out of zone places are available. Thank you for helping us with this. We should receive notice of our staffing and our funding for 2023 before the end of term which will enable us to get the nuts and bolts for next year sorted over the next holiday period.

Mufti day for the whole school is this Friday. Whanau and Friends ask that families donate a can of breakfast food (beans, spaghetti, peachers, pears etc) if they are able to. This is for breakfast club. Breakfast club is open everyday and it makes a huge difference to our school. We are so lucky and grateful for our Breakfast Club parent helpers who ensure this happens. Last year we received a huge stack of cans but we need to get the stock back up. Thank you.

Ngā mihi nui,

Paul Jamieson

Congratulations to our 2022 Ross Shield Players

Well done to Ricki, Ashla, Michael, Lockie, Lachlan, Linkin, Jeffrey, Ritchie and Nation on being selected for Ross Shield. Unfortunately, Nation wasn't present for the group photo. This is the first time that 9 players have been selected from one school.

Their Capping Ceremony was on Saturday afternoon which included a trip around the streets on the old Fire Engine.

WPS - Enrolment Zone Ballot

The Waipawa Primary School Board invites applications from parents who wish to enrol their sons and daughters at Waipawa Primary School for 2023. Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or can be found on the school website.

The deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is Thursday 20 October 2022.

Whanau of students who live within the home zone should also apply by this date to assist the school to plan appropriately for the next year.

The Board has determined that five (5) places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year. These places are all at the New Entrant / Year 1 level of the school. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.

If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available students will be selected by ballot.
If a ballot is required it will be held on Wednesday 26 October 2022.

Whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

Waipawa Primary School Board

If you are late, you are going to an appointment, you have been to an appointment or a student is away from school.

Please sign in or out on the Vistab in the school office if you are late or are leaving school for any reason during the school day. Parents please remind your children that they need to do this as if we have an evacuation or lockdown we need to know where everyone is.

If your child is not attending school for any reason please make contact with either the school office or the classroom teacher by phone, using the Hero App or Seesaw. Relying on siblings to inform us often doesn't work.

STARTING SCHOOL : 4 Year Old Mornings

- These take place in Kākano Class - the Hall from 8:40am until 12:00pm every Friday morning unless there has been prior notification. Please come to the office first and meet Sue England.

- We find 4 visits before starting school is usually sufficient. However, if your child requires more we would be in close communication with you.

- Whanau are welcome to stay for the first visit and leave when the child / parent feels comfortable. Subsequent visits we ask that parents be brave and leave so that the child experiences what school is like.

- Please pack a snack for brainfood (fruit, sandwich, muesli bar) and something for morning tea.

- Children can wear mufti clothing or school uniform if they have it available.

Please don't hesitate to pop in and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
