A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Welcome Back to Term 2
WELCOME BACK
A warm welcome back to all our families. I would also like to welcome back to Mary’s Mount Primary School the Perazzo Family after spending some time in Kalgoorlie. It is great to have Sophie back with us.
The students certainly seem to have had a great break and look energised to commence Term 2.
Last Term, we said good bye to Mrs Crompton who is now on maternity leave, hence, I would like to welcome on staff and to Mary’s Mount Primary School, Mrs Paula Christensen.
I would also like to thank Paula for spending 3-4 days last term with Lindsay and the Year 1 class. It has certainly made the transition far smoother for our little ones.
I encourage all parents in this class to please come along and share in a cup of coffee or tea and to meet with Paula.
I would also like to wish Lindsay and Brad all the best. I am sure Lindsay will pop in from time to time to say hello, and I will ensure I keep you up to date on how they are going.
NEW FLOORING
As you would be aware, over the holidays we have had new flooring installed in most of our classrooms, the support room and contemporary learning hub. All classes now have vinyl floors while part of the Pre-Primary, CLH and support room have carpet tiles.
The classes certainly look brighter and refreshing. It has been pleasing to hear such positive feedback from parents. The classes will also receive a new rug for the students to sit on, when needed.
I would like to thank the School Board for their contribution to the flooring. I would also like to sincerely thank those parents who volunteered their time to help move furniture out of the classrooms at the end of last term. Your help and efforts were truly appreciated. THANK YOU!
I must also thank Mrs Hackner and Mr Smith for the time they spent with me up at the school over the holidays putting the furniture back into the classrooms. I’m afraid that these holidays weren’t much of a break for them, however, we managed to get the work done before the students commenced back this Tuesday.
MAZENOD
Our networking with Mazenod continues to build and be strong. On Thursday 2 May, we accommodated over 50 -60 boys on a rotation basis to take part in their Christian Service. The boys worked with Mrs Hayward in the Physical Education area and also helped our little Year 1 students with reading, art and other class activities. This is the second year that we have accommodated the boys and our students certainly enjoy the experience. It was also nice to have some past Mary's Mount boys return.
CONFERENCE AND SCHOOL VISIT
The last half of this week, Mrs Hackner, Mr Smith and I have been off campus attending an Early Childhood Conference in Sydney and also visiting an Agile Sprints Primary School in Artarmon. The conference focused on the National Quality Framework for the ECE area, and we also received updated research and statistics in the development of the students in these ECE classes. We will now give feedback and share this information with CEWA staff, our teachers and parents. In particular it has also given us new insights for new parents and student readiness for 3 Year Old Kindergarten.
This term again, like all terms, promises to be busy. I encourage all parents to continue to work with their class teachers and to continue supporting our school.
It is, as always, imperative to work together and build this awesome community that we have here at Mary’s Mount Primary School.
God Bless you all and your families.

Principal

A SPECIAL THANKYOU FROM OUR CLASSES TO OUR P&F!!
The Mission: To Spend $500 on Class Resources Last Term our P&F donated $500 to each class from 4K to Y6 to spend on class resources for 2019. Our teachers were very appreciative and excited to receive this money and quickly commenced planning on what they could purchase. We would like to say a special THANK YOU to our P&F for these funds. You can see here what each class has purchased and how they are using the resources. | 4 Year Old KindergartenThe Kindy children are loving the new resources that we purchased with the funds we received from the P&F. Our new Basketball Hoop is a very big hit and all the children in the Early Childhood area are able to access this. Within Kindy, the children are developing their visual perception skills and fine motor skills through the new coloured pebbles and duplo that we purchased that come with instruction cards to build from. We have amazing storytellers in our room and the felt board story sets are assisting in developing their descriptive language and sequencing skills. Thank you so much P&F members!! Ms Ellenbroek | Pre-PrimaryWe are very excited to have received our resources from the P&F funds that were allocated to us.
In the photo you will see a large mat/s along with a number of items that will enhance our light table. We now have transparent 3D blocks, construction pieces and x-rays amongst our purchases. Our sincere thanks to the P&F for providing the Pre-Primary classroom for 2019 and beyond these wonderful resources. Mrs Williams |

Year 4I would like to thank the Parents and Friends of Mary’s Mount greatly for the extremely flexible and valuable resource being our small group focus desk and stools. In Year Four, we utilise the resources during Literacy and Numeracy rotations, which allows the teacher to focus on a small group of children at one time. The children thoroughly enjoy the flexibility of the resources, as it provides another area in which they are to work closely with one another and with the teacher. Miss DeMarte | Year 5The Year Five students would like to thank the P&F for their amazing donation of funds, which has enabled them to purchase sixteen Solar Powered Hydraulic Robot Kits to be used in our STEM lessons. Each kit can be used to make twelve different animals and mechanical robots powered by solar and hydraulics. Mrs Branche | Year 6Thanks to our wonderful P&F. Year 6 has purchased microbits, robotic equipment and stylus pens for the classroom. The micro:bit and robotic equipment are fun to use both in and out of the classroom - designing code and building gadgets are great ways to build a better understanding of ICT and electronics as well as giving computational thinking skills a boost. A stylus is designed to help bring technology into the classroom. To give students the opportunity for hands-on engagement with captivating STEM apps, digital art, and notetaking. Mr Sorgiovanni |
