Kia ora whanau
What a term! Despite massive levels of sickness and the soggiest winter term I can remember, we have had the best 10 weeks ever!
It has been packed full of great learning and so many opportunities for our learners to shine. From the Chess Competition, Toy Sale, Disco, Korean Teacher Visit, Book Battle, Learning Conferences, Netball Zone Day, Production, Sports Prizegiving, Jump Jam Competition, Te Wiki o te Reo Maori, Rippa Zone Day, MOTAT Trips - what a list! It might explain why everyone is feeling very ready for a break! A reminder that school finishes at 2 pm this Friday.
We love that our tamariki have so many opportunities to stretch themselves and to find things that make their hearts sing. Sitting behind these opportunities are an incredibly hard-working team of staff, board members, our PTA crew, and parents who are so committed to our school and our kids. I can’t really say enough to capture how much I appreciate you all.
Next term is another big one and one of my favourite terms of the year! Year 6 campers are heading off to MERC at Long Bay in week 3 of next term, for the adventure of a lifetime. Our Year 5 learners will be out and about at various locations for the week too. We also have Athletics Day and a whole raft of celebrations for the end of the year, including a hangi! For those who are new to our community, we will be popping out a summary of the events that are regular happenings in Term 4 so that you know what to expect.
So much to look forward to!
Te Wiki o te Reo Maori (Maori Language Week)
We had lots of fun last week celebrating Māori Language Week. There were hunts around the school as we looked for kākāriki hipi (green sheep).
Our two kapa haka rōpū performed at our assembly on Friday, and Kākano Hub 1 shared their retelling of Maui and Mahuika.
The senior kapa haka group shared their new item with us, and it brought tears to many eyes! A testament to their hard work during practices and the commitment of all of our staff who are involved with the rōpū.
While it is fantastic to have a week to really spotlight te reo, it is all of our responsibility to strengthen the language every day and every week.
Congratulations!
Hearing of our learners' successes beyond the school gates is always fabulous. These lovelies have played their hearts out this season as part of the Northcote Rugby Club and were recognised for their skills and attitudes. Ka pai to mahi!
A huge well done to Summer Luka, Seth, Lachlan, Emelia, Aria and Finn. You are superstars!

Second-hand Uniform Shop
The used uniform shop is well-stocked again - thank you for your donations. Please don't buy any size 8 shorts for summer! I have so many, at only $2 each. There are quite a few polos and skorts available too. Text me to find out if we have what you need. Donations are still gratefully received; you can drop them into the office or text me for other arrangements. Claire 021 683 117.
