Building Capacity in Elementary
What an exciting time to be in Elementary Education! We just finished celebrating Read Across America, or better yet, Read Across Pasadena and we are starting to get our feet wet with Balanced Literacy.
The 15-16 school year is flying by. We will be sending this out monthly in an effort to celebrate teachers, across all schools, all grade levels and all content. Look for our added resource section in April.
Our hope is that you'll find this space, invigorating, supportive and celebratory!
Celebrations
Collaboration
At the Project Based Learning PD 301 Day 3 @ The Huntington Library, Jodi Marchesso, STEM Coach, provides focused feedback on a PBL developed by teachers from Sierra Madre, Willard and Field.
Teamwork
3rd grade teachers from Hamilton, Cleveland, Franklin and Jackson collaborate on developing their PBL at the Huntington 301 Day 3.
Refinement
Debra Lucas, Instructional Coach listens to the teachers from Washington STEAM Magnet Academy and Muir High School as they use the Project Design Rubric to refine their "Tiny Homes" PBL.
Read Aloud
Julianne Reynoso, our Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, reads to kindergartners at Hamilton a funny book.
Thanks for making reading entertaining, Ms. Reynoso!
Hands-On
Sierra Madre students collect "food" to determine if it's more beneficial for animals to live in groups or not in Becky Bickel's third grade class.
Kuddos to Ms. Bickel, for using Stemscopes to support the implementation of NGSS!
Application
Second grade teacher, Stacey Sue Torres, from Willard works with a small group of students, while others read independently.
Way to build readers, Ms. Torres!
Balanced Literacy
Jason Green, CRT at Franklin began the morning with a school-wide read aloud of Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies.
Inspiration
Look who was inspired to read the book again.
This is how we create a culture of life-long readers.
