Dino Tracks

Welcoming back our Dinos!

RRISD announced their plan to begin on-campus learning on Thursday, September 10 for our students that are served primarily in self-contained special education settings. Parents of students that are eligible to return to Deep Wood on this date will be contacted. We plan to welcome back students that have selected on-campus learning as their preference on Tuesday, September 15th. This preference was indicated on the instructional survey that went out in August. Families will remain in the learning environment that was last selected on the survey for the duration of the first nine-week grading period, ending October 16th. Parents have the ability to request their students move from on-campus learning to virtual learning at any time, but NOT from virtual to on-campus. Those wishing to move from virtual to on-campus may do so at the end of the nine-week grading period.

Currently, 45% of Deep Wood students have selected the on-campus learning environment, a higher percentage than the district average. We are working hard on planning and preparing to bring that percentage back safely. We will share more of that plan next week.

More information on the decision is available on the Round Rock ISD website. While public health conditions could alter these plans at any time, Round Rock ISD would like feedback from families on what additional items should be considered as schools reopen. Families may submit their feedback on Thoughtexchange. Families will have until midnight on September 2 to submit their feedback.

Deep Wood Elementary PTA wants YOU to be part of our Comm'YOU'nity!

Join today to stay updated on what's happening at school and support our Deep Wood Dinos!

Our society's future leaders, innovators, citizens and protectors are our children, and they are given their best chance to succeed when their community unites as a powerful and effective voice for all children. PTA focuses on strengthening education and taking a comprehensive approach to community success.

We know there is no commYOUnity without YOU, our members, our business leaders, our decision-makers. Join us to ensure that supporting our schools is about more than fundraisers, rather the work of parents, educators, and community members coming together to back the future of every child!

YOUR PTA supports our school library, Specials classes (Art, PE, Music), funds class field trips, creates enrichment programs and provides special events to our community throughout the year. A PTA membership is ONLY $7.50 per person and you do not have to be a parent to be a member. Encourage a grandparent, friend, neighbor, or local business to support Deep Wood as well!

Schoology Parent Access Codes

As our students become more comfortable with Schoology and we begin to use it more often for synchronous and asynchronous lessons and assignments, we want you to have access to your child's Schoology account. Teachers emailed specific parent codes last week. If you have not received your parent code, please reach out to your child's teacher.

A parent/guardian Schoology account will keep you connected with your student's academic progress.

You can click this link for support on how to sign up using your access code. Here are some other resources for Schoology and parent account access:

Learning Applications Permission Form

You only need to complete this form once per year. If you have completed it - you are all set!

Teachers will utilize online applications and sites that will enhance the learning of your child and support and reinforce the concepts being taught. Before using these applications and sites, we want to make you aware of federal laws and regulations that apply to the use of technology to support classrooms and require parental consent in order to be most effective.

In an effort to conserve resources, Round Rock ISD is providing families with a convenient way to review and sign the Learning Applications Permission form. If you still wish to sign a paper copy, please let me know. Click here to complete the form.

Welcome to Deep Wood’s Specials Classes!

During virtual learning, your art, music, and PE classes will be asynchronous. You will be able to learn and complete the activities whenever it is most convenient for you during the week. Grades will be taken for specials classes this year, which is different from last spring. We hope you have a great year and we are looking forward to learning with you!

Please let us know what questions you have. You may include your student's name and your email if you have a question that is specific to your student. Click here to submit your questions.

SEPAC works to encourage understanding, respect, acceptance and inclusion of all students in an effort to improve the lives and educational outcomes of students with special needs and their families. There are a variety of ways to keep in touch and get involved with SEPAC both online and in person.

We are here to support, listen and learn from all parents and guardians, not just those families whose child is receiving standard special education services. We are here for families who have a child on a 504 plan. We are here for those who know their child needs something but can’t quite put their finger on what it is they need. We’re here for anyone who has questions, needs ideas or suggestions or just someone to listen.
