Introducing Jessica ridder! First Grade Teacher 2016-2017 School Year!

My name is Jessica Ridder! I graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Early Childhood Education in 2015. I began my first year of teaching in the East Newton School District at Granby Elementary teaching kindergarten. I am VERY excited to begin my journey teaching first grade at Sequiota!

As a part time job through high school and college, I worked as a gymnastics coach. Little did I know that this would have such an impact on my life. Through coaching, I realized my love for children and I learned how natural teaching came to me. Coaching gymnastics is what led me to my career choice of becoming an Early Childhood Educator.

As a child, I was lucky to have amazing teachers who I still reflect on today. Those teachers influenced my love of learning and helped to shape me into the educator that I have become. It is my goal to have that same impact on my students.

Outside of school, I love spending time with my family. My husband Brandon and I were married in June of 2015. We live in Springfield with our CRAZY and fun Labradoodle, Baymax. In my free time I love being outside, traveling, drinking Starbucks, reading and crocheting!

Introducing Laura Snelson! First Grade Teacher 2016-2017 School Year!

My name is Laura Snelson. I am very excited to be joining the Sequiota Elementary family! I was born and raised in Springfield, MO. I graduated from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. While earning my degree, I student taught in a first grade class at Sequiota, 6 years ago. For the past 5 years, I have taught kindergarten at Weaver Elementary, in Springfield. I am thrilled to be joining the Sequiota tribe once again!

I am married to my wonderful husband, Noah and we have two boys. My boys are 5 and 2, they keep us very busy! When I am not at school, I enjoy playing with my boys, crafting, spending time with my extended family, and watching movies.

My passion is teaching young students. I love seeing how much children grow academically and individually, in one year. However, my favorite part of teaching is helping students track their goals and achievements and watching their faces light up as they see how much they have learned and grown. I am excited to begin this new journey at Sequiota!

Introducing Ann Lawyer! Special Education Teacher 2016-2017 School Year

I am excited to be a Sequiota Indian. I have had many adventures in life including climbing a glacier and graduating high school in Alaska. I have wanted to be a teacher since first grade and I have had the opportunity to teach special education at all levels during the past 10 years. I also teach makerspace and Minecraft in our afterschool program. Technology has always been my passion and I have taught for RCET the past four years working with teachers all over SW Missouri, Kansas, and North Carolina. I most recently presented for the Google Summit for the second time in Kansas City. It is super exciting to be joining a team that is invested in the students and will be expanding the opportunities they will have this next year with the addition of the IGNITE program. I look forward to meeting you and if you forget who I am look for the IPAD in a teacher's hand.

Sequiota Elementary

Sequiota is a hidden treasure on the southeast side of Springfield! Over the last 50 years, Sequiota has changed in appearance but the values remain the same. We recently gathered to celebrate 50 years of education, success, community and family! Sequiota is a school where students come first and are at the heart of every decision made. Sequiota is home to some of the BEST families in Springfield! Sequiota would not have the ability to do all that it does without the support of our PTA. The Sequiota PTA truly has the students best interest at heart and serves as a huge foundation of Sequiota Elementary School. If you are looking for a school with a small community feel, you have come to the right place. At Sequiota, we are not just a school, we are a family that supports one another and collaborates to provide the BEST education possible for our students.
