At this dinner you’ll meet former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, PhD, talk about your experiences in Adler’s teen programs, and participate in a discussion about women in STEM with Dr. Whitson and Adler CEO Michelle Larson, PhD.

WISS Education Program: Female-identifying high school students are invited to an evening of “sparking real connections” with Peggy Whitson, the 2019 WISS honoree. The evening will begin with a Teen Showcase over appetizers during which teen and adult attendees will get to know each other. Teens will share highlights from their Adler experiences with Dr. Whitson and other guests in an informal setting. After the showcase, the event will transition to dinner and dessert, during which Michelle Larson, PhD will moderate a discussion between Dr. Whitson and the teen attendees. The discussion will focus on Dr. Whitson’s experience as a woman working in STEM.

Schedule:
Prep session on at the Adler Planetarium - Saturday May 11th, 12pm-2pm
WISS Education Program - Wednesday May 15th, 5pm - 8pm

$50 stipend paid
Travel support (either CTA, Uber, Lyft or Cab)
Program Expectations: As a WISS Education Program attendee you are a member of the Adler community and represent Adler staff members, STEM professionals, visitors, and community partners. Program participants are expected to:
Return a signed MOU & W-9
Attend one prep session on May 11th 12pm-2pm
Attend Dinner with Peggy Whitson, PhD on Tuesday May 14th 5pm-8pm
Actively engage with youth and adult attendees at Dinner with Peggy Whitson, PhD
Share their experience on either @adlerteens social media, personal social media, or write a blog post for Adler Planetarium’s blog by 6/1/2019
Attendance Policy: This program will move quickly and each meeting is important. All participants are expected to attend both a prep session and the WISS Education Program.
